ABOUT YOU:
We are looking for a Social Media Specialist who is experienced and excited by the opportunity to create meaningful brand connections through BC Cancer Foundation’s social media channels.
You like to plan, create and analyze.
You are a proactive team player and an expert in determining how to best position our brand and storytelling across our social media channels. You are performance-minded with a track record of elevating the brand experience with intentional, insights-driven action.
You have a deep understanding of the role social media plays within integrated marketing and communications strategy and are highly motivated to work for a purpose-driven organization. As a member of the Marketing & Communications team, you will experience opportunities for deep cross-functional collaboration along with open, intentional communication in an environment where you can thrive and enhance your professional development.
Reporting to the Director, Content & Communications, your responsibilities will include:
- Develop the BC Cancer Foundation’s social media strategy for both annual planning and campaign activations across multiple Foundation and event channels
- Manage content planning and the social media calendar to ensure key campaigns, announcements, awareness days and top performing long form and top of funnel content needs are balanced and optimized
- Create social media personas by channel and tailor messaging and content format to drive engagement
- Continually evaluate, optimize and improve our social media strategy and tactics, including boosting plans to drive impressions and followers
- Work with Marketing Specialist and agency to integrate and leverage the paid social strategy
- Present performance results to key stakeholders (internal and external)
- Leverage influencers and user-generated content to deepen connections and stimulate engagement
- Increase the social awareness of the BC Cancer Foundation brand
- Collaborate closely with designer on social graphics, and support designer by developing and testing engagement with social graphics for key audiences
- Liaise with BC Cancer experts and patients, survivors and families to share stories in a variety of formats from static posts, reels and video, infographics, carousels, etc.
- Collaborate with internal fundraising teams to develop campaign strategy based on a variety of strategic goals including: lead generation, reach and conversion
- Connect with peers to develop content that celebrates the positive, impact-based culture at BC Cancer Foundation
- Continually refine approach with technology and trend analysis
Core knowledge + skills:
- Experience with driving results and managing multiple social media campaigns simultaneously on a variety of platforms
- Strong knowledge of digital content planning and execution for a wide-variety of channels such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and X
- Experience in storytelling through video, creating reels and overseeing videographers for social content
- Experience in community cultivation and management, and in handling negative social media comments and conversations
- Proven experience in tracking channel analytics, interpreting social media results and optimizing performance to improve outcomes and drive KPIs
- Strong understanding and awareness of paid social media strategy and execution
- Experience building social boosting strategies to increase organic engagement
- Experience with a content scheduling platform such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social and in using social listening tools to help build influencer/content creator/UGC alignment and relations
- Experience using social listening to develop brand awareness strategy
- Knowledge of the graphic design and creative development process with the ability to work efficiently with graphic designers and writers
- Understanding of how to take and direct others to provide engaging photography and videography for social channels
- Ability to turn long form content and announcements into bite-sized captions that engage followers across platforms
- Experience with using project management tools such as Asana to communicate cross-functionally and coordinate campaign and content planning
Qualifications:
- Education in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field plus three to five years’ experience in a social media role or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- A creative thinker with the ability to collaborate with others on cross-functional projects
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial culture
- Track record of successful content planning and growth strategies
- A quick learner who approaches life and work with positivity, professionalism and passion
Salary Range: $57,500 – $76,000
