About the Opportunity:

 

We are looking for a Senior Research and Prospect Analyst who is excited about the opportunity to provide decision-ready information and value-added analysis in support of BCCF’s work to secure transformational support.

 

The Research and Prospect Analyst role identifies strategic opportunities and market research insights to identify individuals, corporations, foundations as well as new markets and strategies to contribute to the realization of the Foundation’s fundraising goals.

 

Reporting to the Director, Development Operations, the key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Managing, defining, tracking and implementing our comprehensive research and prospect analytics program at BCCF, using data analytics, modelling, reporting, and best practices to maximize the potential of both our prospect pool and our fundraisers’ pipelines
  • Leading research projects to enhance strategic positioning for projects, uncover best practices, identify trends, and inform strategic planning
  • Providing information and recommendations to support complex fundraising approaches, strategies, and proposals that drive decisions and actions
  • Assessing the potential of donors, prospective donors, board members, volunteers, and champions
  • Designing and delivering instruction to Development staff in basic research techniques and resources. Mentoring and advising colleagues as they develop their knowledge and research techniques.
  • Identifying new technologies and practices for the Research and Prospect Analytics team through continuous renewal of knowledge and understanding of the field, translating these advances into improved research activities.
  • Overseeing, training, and managing students and other Research staff
  • Monitoring news and media to ensure the Development team is aware of major philanthropic giving in B.C. and other relevant information
  • Utilizing a wide range of resources for research, including printed materials, online databases, news and other media, community resources, and existing files and records
  • Maintaining accurate information on major gift prospects and donors in our database (Raiser’s Edge) through coordination with the Finance, Database and Business Intelligence, and Advancement Services teams

 

Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field; an advanced degree in Library & Information Studies is an asset
  • Minimum four to five years experience performing prospect research or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Previous management experience with direct reports preferred

 

Core Knowledge + Skills:

  • Experience within a fundraising context preferred with knowledge of fundraising principles and practices
  • Experience creating data-informed strategies and reports using data visualization software such as Tableau
  • In-depth understanding of key information sources including securities filings, property records, corporate and news databases, social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.), and constituent/customer database systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex business and financial data, identify trends, make connections, and interpret patterns to guide prospect strategies
  • Demonstrated proficiency with research methodologies including advanced web searching, relationship mapping, and data mining.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, effectiveness, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism and tact in handling highly sensitive and confidential information ethically; adhering to professional standards and protecting the confidential information of BCCF and BC Cancer
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and competing priorities
  • Superior written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear executive information
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Outlook and database/information management. A knowledge of sophisticated fundraising software programs would be an advantage (preferably Raiser’s Edge)
