Job Description

Purpose of Job

Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is responsible for aiding in the management of the financial planning, reporting and accounting procedures within the Complex, as well as its relations with credit institutions, shareholders and the financial community. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain a valid Gaming Control License
  • Supervise, lead and help in directing the Finance Department
  • Implement systems, scheduling and procedures in the Finance Department
  • Control and manage financial activities and aid with affiliated departments
  • Monitor accounts payables, balance sheet accounts and audit documentation
  • Supervise and direct all aspects of the audit function within the Casino complex
  • Ensure Accounting and Financial compliance with all creditors and regulatory agencies
  • Monitor monthly and year-to-date operating statements
  • Conduct an analytical review of monthly financial statements highlighting deviations from budget, unusual increases/decreases in revenue and expenses, providing explanations for each
  • Aid in the design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures for all departments
  • Supervise and manage the production of forecasting and budgetary reports along with financial statements
  • Evaluate the Company’s financial position and issue regular financial and operating reports
  • Support the Controller in managing cash flows and follow-up on ongoing contracts, accounts payable and receivables
  • Prepare the financial forecasts and budgets for each department and consolidation by division and total complex
  • Manage and track proposed capital assets
  • Negotiate and manage various supplier/lease contracts
  • Regularly analyze financial reports and the daily control of operations, and notify the Controller of developing trends
  • Prepare weekly forecasts with management input from all departments within the complex
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly statistical tables and financial commentary  
  • Organizational ability and attention to detail
  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller

Working Conditions

  • Work within a 24/7 operation with ability to work flexible hours when required (days, evening, nights, weekends and holidays)
  • Willing to submit to a criminal record check with results acceptable to our organization, standards and position, and/or obtain and maintain an NBLGC license registration
  • Must have employment eligibility in Canada
  • Must be 19 years of age or older

Knowledge and Skills Required

 

  • University degree or equivalent in the field of Business Administration, Finance or Accounting
  • Professional Accounting designation or near completion (level III or higher)
  • Proven work experience in Finance or Accounting field with supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the overall operation of accounting procedures, budget preparation, year- end requirements and financial audits
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills - must be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated high degree of common sense and intellect with a well developed business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks for self and others and follow them through to completion
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate others
  • Thorough understanding of expense control
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
