Job Description

Great Canadian is looking for our next GREAT colleague to join us as our Staff Accountant, Fixed Assets & Commodity Taxes. 

 

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Accounting, this position is responsible for fixed assets accounting and reporting, facility development reimbursement submissions to provincial gaming corporations, preparation of commodity tax returns and inventory analysis. While contributing to a safe and welcoming work environment for all employees, you will lead by example by ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures. This contract position has an expected completion date of April 2019.

 

Duties and responsibilities for our next Staff Accountant, Fixed Assets & Commodity Taxes will include:

  • Recording the cost of newly-acquired fixed assets (tangible and intangible), tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation and disposition of fixed assets
  • Verifying and reconciling the fixed asset module to the general ledger balance
  • Analyzing capital costs on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Reviewing Properties Under Development (“PUD”) balances monthly with the Property Development team to determine the appropriate time to transfer the PUD balance to specific property, plant and equipment accounts and to commence amortization over the relevant estimated useful life
  • Preparing Capital Cost Working Papers for monthly, quarterly and annual closings
  • Preparing Facility Development reimbursement submissions to Provincial Gaming Corporations (PGC’s)
  • Verifying and reconciling the Facility Development approved balances by property with the PGC on a quarterly basis
  • Preparing GST, PST and Non-Resident Withholding tax returns for all subsidiaries
  • Responding to inquiries and resolving issues related to fixed assets and Facility Development reimbursements from PGC’s and operations
  • Preparing monthly Inventory Working Papers and analysis
  • Liaising and communicating effectively with all appropriate operational departments
  • Developing and cultivating strong working relationships with all stakeholders: guests, ownership, employees as well as internal and external auditors
  • Ensuring compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performing other duties as assigned or directed

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting/finance; capital expenditure experience preferred
  • Post Secondary education in accounting/finance or a suitable combination of education and experience
  • CPA student Level 3 or 4 is an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Ability to exceed internal and external customer expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication
