Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is a Canadian based company that operates gaming, entertainment and hospitality facilities in British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Washington State. The Company has 22 gaming properties, which consists of twelve casinos, including a four Diamond resort hotel in Richmond, BC and a four star hotel in Moncton, NB, four horse racetrack casinos, three community gaming centres and one commercial bingo hall. Great Canadian is looking for our next GREAT colleague to join us as our Database Administrator. Under the direction of the Manager, Enterprise Applications, this position is responsible for the maintenance, support and deployment of company databases while contributing to a safe and welcoming work environment for all employees. 


Duties and responsibilities for our next Database Administrator will include:

  • Overall performance, availability and security of the database environment
  • Designs, develops and implements databases
  • Selects, installs, configures and regularly reviews outputs from database monitoring tools
  • Actively monitors and ensures appropriate database installation, configuration, capacity, performance tuning, and security management
  • Installs and upgrades database servers and associated application tools
  • Responsible for analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of database issues, investigation of service interruptions and creation of preventative measures
  • Provision of 2nd and 3rd level technical support
  • Develops change requests including implementation, communication, testing and back out plans
  • Maintains database documentation and provision of reports on maintenance contracts, SLAs and warranty information and system lifecycle
  • Actively monitors and ensures proper execution of database backups
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of database performance
  • Establish and maintain IT processes supporting assigned systems
  • Follows IT policies and procedures and maintains working knowledge of utilized technologies
  • Communicates effectively with all appropriate operational departments
  • Builds strong working relationships with all stakeholders, employees and vendors
  • Complies with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in SQL server database administration and IT support
  • Experience with Microsoft business intelligence tools an asset
  • Oracle database administration skills an asset
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven troubleshooting experience for O/S, application, network, workstation and laptop technologies
  • Post-secondary education in information technology or a suitable combination of education and experience
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Occasional travel to Ontario and other parts of Canada required
  • Ability to exceed internal and external customer expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication
