Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is a Canadian based company that operates gaming, entertainment and hospitality facilities in British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Washington State. Great Canadian is looking for our next GREAT colleague to join us as our Senior Communications Specialist. Under direction of the Vice President, Stakeholder Relations and Responsible Gaming, this position is responsible for developing, updating and providing tools and resources for all internal and external communications to Great Canadian properties in accordance with the Corporate Communications Strategic Plan, including establishing the tone for certain communication material originating from the senior executive level of the company. This individual provides communication in a consistent and structured format that successfully educates and engages employees and external stakeholders at all Great Canadian properties and their communities through various methods and mediums. This individual will also be accountable for coordinating, collecting, analyzing and reporting on various communications initiatives. The Senior Communications Specialist will work closely with Corporate Human Resources colleagues regarding internal communications initiatives as well as various Great Canadian properties on an as-needed and project-specific basis.

Duties and responsibilities for our next Senior Communications Specialist will include:

  • Creating various internal communications tools and resources for Great Canadian properties, as well as the company’s senior executive team
  • Creating various external communication tools and resources for the communities and stakeholders that Great Canadian serves
  • Assisting Great Canadian properties with preparing communication material for regular site communication initiatives, as well as special projects
  • Providing feedback and executing corporate communications strategy in an effective manner in collaboration with Corporate Human Resources colleagues
  • Evaluating strategies, diagnosing gaps and providing initiatives to support companywide communications goals and the Corporate Communications Strategic Plan
  • Creating corporate communications tools and resources for companywide initiatives, including the Snapshot Survey  (Employee Engagement Survey) results
  • Engaging and educating employees on effective communication at all levels as needed
  • Assisting in planning and developing training courses and materials for properties that have employee portals, and including the content development and support of a company-wide intranet
  • Working closely with graphic designers on graphic content for communications documentation
  • Developing fresh story ideas and communicating through monthly/quarterly corporate newsletter
  • Assisting, developing and creating general external Great Canadian corporate communications, as required
  • Liaising and communicating effectively with all appropriate operational departments and Great Canadian properties
  • Developing and cultivating strong working relationships with all stakeholders: guests, employees, vendors, external stakeholders and regulators

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations
  • 4+ years of professional writing experience
  • Strong MS Office and Adobe products skills
  • Graphic design experience an asset
  • Proficient with messaging across multiple communication modes (e.g. print, website, mobile, social media and others)
  • Database reporting an asset
  • Labour relations communications an asset
  • Brand building communications skills an asset
  • Demonstrated superior analytical skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to balance and manage multiple projects and perform under tight deadlines with competing priorities
  • Accredited Insights Practitioner or Insights knowledge an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles and methodologies is an asset
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and individually, with minimal supervision
  • Proven track record influencing peers and management
  • Collaborative (solicits input to improve/enhance strategy and development)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organized and efficient in managing deadline driven projects

  • Candidates must be ready and willing to work a flexible schedule.  The hours of work will be based on customer and business needs
  • Ability to successfully obtain a Serving It Right License
  • Ability to successfully obtain a criminal record and credit check through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB)
