Job Description

Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is a Canadian based company that operates gaming, entertainment and hospitality facilities in British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Washington State. The Company has 22 gaming properties, which consists of twelve casinos, including a four Diamond resort hotel in Richmond, BC and a four star hotel in Moncton, NB, four horse racetrack casinos, three community gaming centres and one commercial bingo hall.


Great Canadian is looking for our next GREAT colleague to join us as our Manager, Financial Reporting.


Under the direction of the Director, Financial Reporting, this position is responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual external financial reporting for the Toronto Stock Exchange (“TSX”) in compliance with the BC Securities Commission and national public company reporting requirements. 


Duties and responsibilities for our next Manager, Financial Reporting will include:

  • Preparing quarterly and annual external financial reporting, including drafting financial statements and related notes; preparing the management discussion and analysis of results and the financial aspect of press releases
  • Assisting in the preparation or review of Annual Report, Information Circular, Press Releases, Audit and Finance Committee packages, etc.
  • Assisting in the preparation or review of entity financial statements for GCGC subsidiaries
  • Acting as the primary contact for internal and external auditors; coordinating audit timing and working paper requirements. Coordinating with external legal counsel, bankers and valuation consultants, as required
  • Performing goodwill and long-lived asset impairment tests as required
  • Preparing working papers and journal entries for interest accretion on trailing payments and certain provisions
  • Responding to and resolves inquiries and issues related to financial reporting; provides financial accounting analysis/support for operational transactions
  • Taking lead to establish the Company’s accounting policy and procedures in conjunction with the Accounting and Operations teams, assessing impact of new IFRS standards, prepares technical accounting memos, developing necessary policy compliance procedures, and training staff as required
  • Maintaining and performing ongoing reviews of internal controls over financial reporting and reporting systems to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost reductions, etc.: plans and manages related improvement projects to completion
  • Under the direction of the Manager Tax Accounting & Financial Regulatory Reporting, assisting with the coordination of tax planning and compliance and preparing simple corporate tax returns
  • Communicating effectively with all appropriate operational departments
  • Building strong working relationships with guests and employees
  • Complying with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performing other duties as assigned or directed

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • CPA Designation
  • Ability to exceed internal and external customer expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication
  • Computer literacy in MS Office; advanced level; JD Edwards, Cognos Controller and Cognos 8 Business Intelligence an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in public company financial reporting and strong knowledge of IFRS 
  • Experience with US GAAP and related financial reporting an asset
