Salary Range: $60,427-$86,864/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

 

Job Summary:


The translational research performed in the Benard and Lau laboratory seeks to develop radiopharmaceuticals to improve the diagnosis and treatment of hematological and solid malignancies. We are looking for a Chemistry technician to join our research groups at the BC Cancer Research Institute to support our research and development efforts and overall laboratory operations. You will work closely with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other laboratory technicians for the preclinical in vitro and in vivo characterization of radiopharmaceuticals. This role will involve the handling of radioactive materials.

 

Responsibilities:


• Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and samples for analysis according to established protocols and procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation (e.g., peptide synthesizers, HPLC, mass-spectrometry, spectrophotometer), ensuring proper functionality.
• Radiolabeling of antibodies, antibody fragments, peptides, and small molecule inhibitors with isotopes, including but not limited to 89Zr, 64Cu, 68Ga, 44Sc, 18F, 155Tb, 99mTc, 111In, 177Lu and 225Ac. Training will be provided as needed.
• Record and analyze experimental data accurately and efficiently, maintaining detailed records and documentation.
• Assist in the development, optimization and writing of new methods and procedures, for equipment operation, chemical syntheses and research analytical methods.
• Support trainees and staff in adhering to best practices of chemical laboratory safety
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines at all times, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

 

Qualifications:


• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in a chemistry-related role.
• OR Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a chemistry-related role.
• Strong understanding of basic chemical principles, laboratory techniques, and analytical instrumentation.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Commitment to upholding quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
