Registered Nurse (RN)/New Grad RN
You are a Registered Nurse with experience and/or interest in oncology care. Known as a highly collaborative and compassionate team member, you put patients first in your approach to everything you do. BC Cancer is the place for you: our Victoria centre is implementing a team-based model of care that will put our BC Cancer patients at the heart of our health care system. We’re hiring RNs to support this new model and to join us on our mission to continually improve patient care, experience, and outcomes in meaningful ways.
What you’ll do
- Provide direct patient oncology care: assess patients including review of patient and family history; develop and implement nursing care plans specific to the patient needs considering psychosocial, cultural, ethnic contexts; deliver treatment following prescribed protocols.
- Collaborate with patients, family and team members to develop, assess, and modify patient treatment/care plans; support patients in the interpretation of their care plans.
- Administer medications, injections, blood products and IV fluids; monitor patient reactions to treatment and changes in physical or mental status; consult a physician as required.
- Conduct and document patient information and health care history, nursing assessments, telephone communications, symptom and side effect management, patient and family education and care evaluations.
- Admit, transfer or discharge patients according to BC Cancer policies and Centre directives.
- Refer patients to other health care professionals and programs in the agency and in the community health services as required.
What you bring
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Current CPR (Level C) certification.
- One (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
You have demonstrated:
- Relevant clinical knowledge.
- Ability to apply clinical knowledge in practice.
- Ability to utilize clinical and information technology to enhance patient care in accordance with agency policies.
- Communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, the public and all levels of staff both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to organize patient care and set priorities.
- Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
- Skills in CPR techniques.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
