Provides technical support for research projects and clinical programs related to optical imaging and spectroscopy for the analysis of tissues by performing a variety of procedures pertaining to the development construction and troubleshooting of prototype optical instrumentation and software tools for the early detection of cancer. Works independently in a multidisciplinary environment with the interaction between biomedical and clinical practice.

 


In this role, you will:

  • Develop, construct and troubleshoot prototypes of tools and devices.
  • Maintain and update devices being tested in clinical trials.
  • Operate equipment and instrumentation in a clinical setting.
  • Document and maintain data gathering processes and enter data into clinical databases.
  • Prepare and submit devices for certification.
  • Participate in the processing and analysis of data gathered.
  • Participate in lab meetings and present work for review by others.
  • Demonstrate work methods or procedures to less experienced assistants as designated; orient new staff to department
  • Contribute to the preparation and/or presentation of research papers, grant renewals and manuscripts.

 

You hold: 

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from a recognized Engineering degree program in an appropriate discipline (e.g. electrical, mechanical, engineering physics)
  • Five (5) years of recent related experience in a research laboratory.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC).

 

You have: 

  • Familiarity with programming and CAD programs for mechanical design.
  • The ability to machine simple parts.
  • The ability to operate microscopes, digital cameras, computer interfacing, optical fibres, optical instrumentation and image processing.
