BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is seeking An Attending Physician (Family Practice with low-risk Obstetrics) for the BCW FIR Perinatal Addiction Program for locum or regular clinical contracts. BC Women’s FIR program is a recognized leader in Perinatal Addiction programming that upholds Indigenous Cultural Safety and Trauma and Violence Informed Practices. Guiding principles of Harm Reduction, Recovery oriented Practice, and Equity oriented care are core to the work we do on Fir Square. We support interdisciplinary team work to collaboratively support women’s goals and provide rooming in as a standard for women with substance use disorders.


Reporting to the Medical Director, FIR Program, you will work with the multi-professional core team at BC Women’s FIR Perinatal Addiction Service Program. As the successful candidate, you will apply current research evidence and best practice standards to guide your practice. You are an innovator, accountable for quality of care in accordance with established policies and philosophies. You will participate in the collaborative development of clinical practice standards relating to this unique population.

You have a strong primary care background and maternity care experience with ability to work in an inter-professional unit, collaborating with partners in nursing, social work, pediatrics, hospital leadership and all practitioners of obstetric and newborn care. You also have expertise in Addiction Medicine, ideally having completed an accredited addiction medicine fellowship or enhanced skills program and experience working with women and families with substance use disorders.

You are committed to your clinical practice and strive to provide the highest level of care. You will work with a strong team of physicians providing care to this population both in an inpatient clinical setting, with day shift work and/or night call. You will work in collaboration with program leadership to facilitate complex medical and ethical patient care plans. You are capable of problem solving, achieving results and developing coalitions. You lead by example, providing support and developing strong working relationships through inter-professional collaboration.

You are eligible for medical licensure in the Province of British Columbia. You will have CCFP Accreditation for Family Physicians and additional training in Addiction Medicine.

As the successful candidate, you will be recommended for clinical faculty appointment to the University of British Columbia. Academic rank will be dependent on qualifications and will be recommended by the Department of Family Practice of the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine.
