The IT Architect coordinates the development and implementation of technical architecture, formulates policies and standards related to the IT architecture and communicates IT infrastructure to staff as required. Provides expert technical consultation, vision and leadership in the analysis, feasibility, design, planning, implementation, and use of the IT infrastructure. Coordinates the technical planning for corporate large-scale system initiatives and coordinates the procurement of external services. Provides input into the development of policies, annual goals and objectives for the area of responsibility.


What you’ll do

  • Defines the principles that guide technology decisions for the enterprise and develops and implements policies and standards related to technology architecture. Formulates strategies and plans for short-term and long-term technology architecture that support the Health Authority’s business needs. Oversees the evaluation and selection of hardware and software product standards and the design of standard configurations.
  • Serves as tier three support within the team, leveraging deep expertise to resolve complex problems and issues related to Microsoft Exchange (On-premise & Online), MS Teams and Active Directory.
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to investigate and identify root causes of escalated incidents, implementing robust solutions and preventative measures to enhance system performance and stability.
  • Designs and coordinates the implementation of an enterprise-wide technical architecture based on business requirements and IT strategies and then directs the activities associated with ensuring compliance with the enterprise architecture. Communicates the technology infrastructure to IT staff, management, community sites, and project teams.
  • Analyzes the IT environment continually to detect critical performance and security deficiencies and develops or recommends solutions for improvement. Participates in disaster recovery and contingency planning and testing. Participates in risk assessments, risk management planning and vulnerability testing related to the information security features of the systems, networks, and related administrative activities.
  • Researches and analyzes market, technology, and industry trends and standards related to technologies that affect network, security, server infrastructure, and other platforms for the purposes of determining potential impact on the enterprise and the suitability of different approaches in solving emerging business needs. Provides recommendations on the use and evolution of IT architecture.
  • Prepares, manages and evaluates the procurement of external services by managing the RFI, RFQ, and/or RFP process including creating and evaluating the RFP and committing funds for large enterprise-wide systems initiatives estimated at one million dollars or greater. Liaises with outside vendors, reviews bids and/or negotiates equipment and/or service contracts, and makes recommendations where necessary to the Manager. Monitors the level of support to ensure requirements and expectations of the contract(s) are met.
  • Coordinates technical planning for corporate large-scale systems initiatives, working closely with business units, functional area managers, senior IT team and architecture team members to define the goals, objectives and plans that direct systems design and implementation activities. Resolves problems and scheduling conflicts and provides status updates and reports.
  • Designs, implements and supports enterprise wide security solutions and access controls in a way that provides appropriate, demonstrable and coordinated security procedures and practices that are compliant with related law, regulation, policy and professional standards. Provides monitoring, auditing and investigation expertise into security, policy and appropriate use violations.
  • Provides expert technical advice and consultation by performing analysis, formulating recommendations for proposed technology changes, and by providing input into application development and into the use of new technology for inclusion in the technology architecture. Provides consultation and advice to senior management on technology alternatives and solutions.
  • Participates in assigned committees; chairs and/or leads discussion as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related study or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Seven (7) years of recent related experience in a large, complex organization including experience with at least two IT disciplines from a client/server environment, including but not limited to, technical architecture, systems analysis, systems support and troubleshooting, network management, and operations.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $86,398 - $124,197 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
