What you’ll do

  • Perform gynecological cytology screening in accordance with established procedures and workload expectations, including independent signing out of specimens with negative results, by performing duties such as viewing slides, checking for abnormalities, marking areas of interest and flagging of cases for review.
  • Record interpretation results on computerized forms for all screened cases.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in Cytotechnology through methods such as reviewing relevant literature, consulting with other professionals and attending relevant education programs as requested and/or approved.
  • Maintain knowledge of current procedures through methods such as reviewing written reporting rules and updates.
  • Participate in the lab safety awareness projects and maintain a safe and healthy workstation environment by following established safety procedures.

 

What you bring

 

  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) as a Cytotechnologist.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Cytotechnology, plus three (3) months’ recent, related gynecological cytology screening experience or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.

 

You will also have the ability to:

  • Concentrate on microscope work in a demanding environment for many hours at the time.
  • Operate related equipment and use related software.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory quality management procedures.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

$36.69 to $45.81 per hour
