The Research Program Manager collaborates with and brings researchers and partners together and facilitates the research process by assisting with the articulation of research plans, performing background research, structuring proposals and budgets and ensuring timelines are met.  Major responsibilities include providing assistance in the recruitment process of research support personnel, the preparation of grant applications, facilitating collaborations between investigators, the preparation of ethical review applications, reviewing protocols and agreements for ethical integrity and accuracy and managing regulatory documentation around the study approval and renewal process as appropriate. 

 

 

What you’ll do

  • Manage all aspects of study initiation, development and operational conduct including coordinating all study documentation from application to approval stages and ensuring that staff members are meeting requirements at all institutional levels.
  • Collaborate and consult with Principal Investigators to project study needs and develop plans to maximize research capabilities within available resources.
  • Identify human resource, research space and equipment needs for the study and resolves as appropriate.
  • Develop research project budgets and assist with the negotiation of terms of agreement and budgets with PIs and research collaborators. Monitor project budgets within the context of granting agency guidelines, operational demands and resource constraints and uses best practice methods to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated budgets.
  • Collaborate with PIs to source future funds and provides assistance in writing grant applications. Monitor expenditures and highlights reports for PIs on fiscal performance as it relates to resource utilization and expenditure patterns.
  • Identify issues and problem solv to facilitate productive relationships with collaborators, funding agencies and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the training and management of all levels of personnel and trainees within the parameters of the research program as necessary.
  • Ensure all job descriptions within area of responsibility clarify and delineate position expectations.  
  • Complete performance reviews and facilitate individual goal setting and development sessions for staff within area of responsibility.
  • Advise researchers on regulatory requirements for the conduct of research and prepare ethical review submissions and required revisions. 
  • Liaise with appropriate Ethics Committees to determine status of the concurrent ethics approvals and assist investigators in resolving related issues as needed.

What you bring

 

Qualifications:

  • A  level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Health Sciences, preferably at a post grad level
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, related experience in an academic health care organization or a related industry, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

You have:

  • Knowledge of medical, clinical and research terminology. Experience with research practices and clinical trials administration.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload and work under time pressures to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to others regarding the interpretation and application of organizational clinical trial agreement policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to resolve issues and to be flexible to meet and adapt to changes in departmental priorities.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment within a range of established alternatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide leadership and training to promote an efficient and effective team based environment. Advanced computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheets and database software.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Have awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Support team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Have commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Have Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time (Until February 14, 2026)

Salary Range: $86,398 - $124,197 . The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

Location: Various BC Cancer Locations within BC - ability to work remotley / hybrid
