Allergy Technologist - Ambulatory Clinics

As per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination against COVID-19 is a condition of employment with PHSA as of October 26, 2021.
The Allergy Technologist performs technical work and specialized testing in the Allergy Clinic, involving clinical test procedures, specimen procurement, lung function tests, and ascertainment of patient data and patient education as per established policies and procedures.
What you’ll do
- Calibrate spirometer and nebulizers for inhalation challenges and performs tests of forced expiratory breathing (spirometer). Record data according to ATS guidelines.
- Assist in the preparation of patient charts for upcoming clinics by filling charts with pertinent requisitions for their possible testing. Order any special drugs and vaccines as required.
- Obtain patient data such as height and weight and complete the appropriate standardized questionnaire.
- Perform exercise and inhalation challenge tests.
- Order and prepare test materials and perform skin testing on patients. Measure the size of any welts that appear and compare them to a negative and positive control to ensure test is accurate.
What you bring
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology
- One (1) year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Graduation from an accredited program in Medical Terminology.
- Current CPR course.
You have the ability to:
- Communicate with children of all ages and to be comfortable performing procedures on children.
- Communicate with parents to alleviate anxiety associated with procedures.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Organize workload and set priorities.
- Operate the hospital computer system and related equipment.
- Physically perform the duties of the position.
- Perform procedures assigned using your technical knowledge and competence.

Your record is permanently purged / deleted from the respective site and the record will not be available in any searches.
