Forensic Psychologist – Forensic Psychiatric Clinic Surrey, BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services

 

Carry out psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments.

 

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Complete comprehensive psychological assessments including assessing risk to re-offend. 
  • Prepare comprehensive written psychological reports that include descriptions and interpretations of psychological testing and formulation of a psychological profile with recommendations for treatment and management of risk related behaviors. 
  • Participate in treatment planning conferences. 
  • Testify as an expert forensic psychology witness in the Courts or BC Review Board hearings in support of psychological assessments. 
  • Participate in forensic psychology research and maintaining an up-to-date review forensic psychology research

 

You hold:

  • A Doctorate in Clinical Forensic Psychology or Clinical Psychology with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in forensic mental health.
  • One (1) year direct clinical experience performing diagnostic assessment and treatment of adults in a Forensic Mental Health setting including risk assessment, cognitive behavioral therapy or other relevant assessment and treatment modalities.
  • Current registration with the College of Psychologists of BC (or may be secured within 18 months of hire.) 

 

You have a comprehensive knowledge of:

  • Psychology including risk assessment and risk management, developmental theories, family and social dynamics, treatment and behaviour management modalities and psychological testing and interpretation.
  • The justice system, complex legal issues and relevant legislation. 

 

You have:

 

  • Specialized expertise in treatment approaches for violent offenders, sexual offenders, or other specialized forensic psychology issues, including the evaluation of the accused person’s response to treatment initiatives. 
  • The ability to prepare comprehensive written assessments for the Courts and referral agencies. 
  • The ability to testify in the court as an expert witness. 
  • Broad knowledge of the service delivery system for offenders and their families at the local, regional and provincial level. 

You have demonstrated abilities to:

 

  • Prioritize and develop and implement short and long-term objectives. 
  • Work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to deal with others effectively. 
  • Initiate and carry out research. 
  • Provide clinical and professional supervision, instruct and teach. 
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

As part of the provincial mental health services continuum, BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services provides a diverse range of specialized, "one-of-a-kind" tertiary level mental health services to residents across all geographic areas in BC. These include Adult Forensic Psychiatric Services located at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital plus six regional clinics. In addition to direct services, BC Mental Health & Addiction Services acts as a support and resource to service providers across the province, and contributes to research and education.
