Psychologist - Sunny Hill Health Centre, BC Children’s Hospital

 

Improve the psychological health of children and youth.

 

 

In this role, you will:

  • Treat children and youth with medical, developmental, behavioural, psychiatric and other problems.
  • Contribute to departmental and organizational mandates and goals related to our role as an academic health centre.            

As our successful candidate, you will:

  • Plan and organize services for your client group, in consultation with the Head of Psychology and working with other leaders.
  • Help coordinate the inter-disciplinary team for the clinic/program service delivery.
  • Coordinate and deliver a comprehensive range of psycho-diagnostic assessments and treatment services such as cognitive, educational and social/emotional evaluations and psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual or group therapy, behaviour management, play psychotherapy, hypnosis, biofeedback and parent groups.
  • Document assessments, treatment plans and outcomes and advise other members of the treatment team.
  • Be the primary psychology contact for others serving your patient groups.
  • Recommend program plans, evaluations and changes to the criteria and procedures for referrals, needs assessment and case documentation.
  • Promote the services of the department to the public, community and professionals’ groups as requested by the Head of Psychology and with other staff.
  • Advise colleagues, physicians and hospital personnel on psychological assessment, treatment modalities and patient care issues.
  • Prepare and deliver in-service presentations to department and hospital staff and academic teaching to medical and health care learners/staff as requested.
  • Supervise and evaluate psychology residents and other trainees and students. Participate in training pre- and postdoctoral fellows.                                        

 

You have:

  • Current registration by the College of Psychologists of BC, or eligibility for registration.
  • Training at the doctoral level in child clinical and/or developmental psychology, pediatric neuropsychology, or a closely related area.
  • Recent related experience in women’s and/or children, adolescent, psycho-diagnostic, clinical and/or health care environment.

  • Carry out duties efficiently.
  • Establish priorities and develop/implement short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Deal with others effectively.
  • Teach and provide instruction.
  • Proficiency in computer skills related to report writing and to recording and managing data.

BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services.

 

Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children (SHHC), a leading provincial facility offering specialized services to children and youth with developmental disabilities from birth to age 17, works collaboratively with BCCH. SHHC focuses on the child and their family while supporting health care professionals in their community. BCCH also operates a wide number of specialized health programs, is a leading acute care teaching facility, and conducts research to advance health and care through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with the University of British Columbia.
