The Research Development Facilitator (RDF) is a key member of the core infrastructure for the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) and Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI). In line with the mandate of the BCCHR Research & Technology Development Office (RTDO) to increase the success of research programs and funding applications to provincial, national and international agencies in all areas of health research, the RDF consults directly with researchers and teams to coordinate and develop strategic research plans and external funding applications. Reporting to the Director, Research & Technology Development, the RDF leads and coordinates key aspects of major research funding proposals developed by the RTDO; provides expert consultation, guidance, critical review and support to research personnel and external stakeholders; identifies and tracks metrics related to proposal development; and ensures proposal development deliverables are achieved by deadlines.

 

In this role you will:

  • Perform research to identify funding opportunities and targeted research development activities for BCCHR and WHRI communities
  • Establish strategic plans and objectives to outline proposal development timelines and deliverables, and execute complex proposal development plans with stringent timelines.
  • Provide expertise for articulation of research plans; execute proposal development plan according to best practices for development/submission of large and multi-institutional proposals; ensure successful and coordinated completion of components; ensure readiness for next phases; and consult with external stakeholders as needed.
  • Track progress according to project plan and identified metrics. Monitor and report on progress and major barriers encountered. Make recommendations to Director about proposal development scope and related changes required to facilitate a successful outcome.
  • Work with research teams to develop budgets for major projects and programs.
  • Facilitate strategic planning workshops and team meetings; develop targeted workshops and training sessions for investigators, trainees and clinical staff.
  • Provide leadership by giving advice or guidance in situations that require interpretation and judgment.

 Your have:

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a research-based Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. Experience or working knowledge of content areas is key to the success of this role.
  • At least 3-5 year’s recent experience in facilitating and managing research consultation processes with a wide range of stakeholder groups, and experience teaching at the post-secondary level and in developing and delivering training materials.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of scientific writing, including development of funding proposals, grant applications, reports, and/or contracts, as well as of project management principles. Good knowledge of granting agency requirements and application procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, including experience in critical review and substantive editing, to function within a complex interdisciplinary health research environment, including ability to communicate with scientists and health professionals.
  • Computer literacy with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management, and database applications.
  • Capacity for using initiative, vision, independent thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities to implement proposal development plans and realize project completion.
  • Experience using effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict, and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities, and resolve problems in a timely manner.
