British Columbia Children’s Hospital (BCCH) and the University of British Columbia are seeking an accomplished and enthusiastic pediatric anesthesiologist to join the BCCH Executive Leadership Team and guide the Department of Anesthesia in its delivery of excellent clinical care, with a commitment to academic achievement, teaching, quality improvement and career development across the Department.  


B.C. Children’s Hospital, and its brand new 233 bed Teck Acute Care Centre, is the tertiary/quaternary referral centre for infants and children from across B.C. (population 4.6 million). The Department of Anesthesia provides comprehensive perioperative services for a complete range of children’s surgery, including cardiac surgery, craniofacial surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic/spine surgery, extremity reconstruction, neonatal surgery, solid organ (including cardiac) transplantation, trauma and interventional radiology/cardiology. The Department is also responsible for pre-anesthesia patient assessment, supports an Acute Pain Service for inpatients, participates in a multidisciplinary chronic pain clinic, and provides a distributed procedural sedation service throughout the hospital. Members of the Department are actively engaged in clinical research, quality improvement, education through simulation and are committed to undergraduate and postgraduate trainee education, which includes the BCCH pediatric anesthesia fellowship program.


The preferred candidate will have certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or equivalent, with subspecialty training in Pediatric Anesthesia and must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. A minimum of 10 years’ experience, including some experience as a clinical leader is considered mandatory. The preferred candidate will also be eligible for an appointment within the UBC Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics.


Competitive remuneration is provided through an Alternate Payment Plan (APP) through the Provincial Health Services Authority.
