BC Cancer is currently engaged in a Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) project, which will improve the safety, quality, and consistency of patient care as well as streamline processes for care providers and clinicians through a common electronic health record.

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, Functional Imaging (FI) department, the Quality Coordinator, Microbiology provides support to the department’s radiopharmaceutical manufacturing laboratory and Quality Management System (QMS). The Quality Coordinator’s main responsibility is to oversee the microbiological testing conducted for sterile radiopharmaceuticals and environmental monitoring of the facility to meet the requirements of Health Canada’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations. Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); developing and writing SOPs that recognize Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP); performing quality record review and internal audits; and supporting other QMS programs as required.

 

Duties and Accountabilities:

 

  • Ensures cleanroom operation, microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, and gowning techniques are performed per Standard Operating Procedures and in compliance to Health Canada GMPs.
  • Reviews microbiological test and monitors data. Initiates investigations and deviation reports as required. Identifies and follows up on any relevant or potentially adverse trends.
  • Supports investigations by assembling facts, collecting and analyzing data, and following-up on corrective actions.
  • Monitors third party laboratory testing and reporting.
  • Drafts, revises, and publishes Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with QMS and GMP requirements.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience in a microbiology laboratory or a GMP pharmaceutical environment.
  • Knowledge of cleanrooms, environmental monitoring, and gowning techniques an asset.
  • Experience in writing SOPs, data/documentation management, and familiarity with Quality Management Systems relating to Health Canada and the US FDA GMPs and/or GLP regulations obtained through direct work experience and/or related training is highly desired.

 

Skills and Abilities

 

  • Demonstrated administrative, organizational, work planning and control skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
