Director, Clinical & Systems Transformation

 

Lead BC Cancer’s successful implementation of the Clinical Systems Transformation (CST), profoundly improving our ability to achieve “excellence in health, every time.” In this role, you will:

  • Lead us in transitioning to and sustaining CST.
  • Engage with internal and external clinical, research, administrative and operational stakeholders and lead communication and collaboration to support CST.
  • Enact operational improvements to prepare for CST and mobilize resources to achieve goals.
  • Connect with all BC health authorities to support CST implementation in the six regional cancer centers, the community oncology network sites, and BC Cancer’s provincial programs.
  • Strategize with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure cancer patient care is optimized.
  • Report to the Senior Director, Regional Clinical Operations/CST Clinical Lead and work closely with the Executive and other regional/provincial teams.

 

The Clinical Systems and Transformation project spans across Providence Health Care (PHC), Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Support the Senior Director, Regional Clinical Operations/CST Clinical Lead for BC Cancer in CST planning, design, implementation, and sustainment.
  • Oversee, lead and manage the BC Cancer-CST Project Office, including project management support staff.
  • Provide input into CST strategy and planning, representing BC Cancer’s particular interests and requirements.
  • Lead change management to ensure successful CST implementation.
  • Ensure BC Cancer resources are used effectively. Align resources with the mission, vision, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and BC Cancer.
  • Evaluate project goals and recommend reallocation of resources to achieve them. Develop cost pressure and business case submissions.
  • Develop and implement a stakeholder and employee communication strategy and plan, identify project priorities, project development, plan goals and objectives, coordinate resources and monitor outcomes.
  • Work with the CST team to develop a stakeholder engagement and learning plan. Ensure that BC Cancer stakeholders are fully engaged and prepared for CST.
  • Lead staff by coaching, guiding and modeling key behaviours/strategies, encouraging dialogue and facilitating resolutions to work issues. Foster team spirit, trust and mutual respect.
  • Evaluate individual and team performance. Investigate work and staff issues. Where necessary initiate disciplinary action up to and including termination. Participate in labour relations management as applicable.
  • Develop annual budget for CST implementation. Monitor budget performance, approve expenditures and prepare summaries for fiscal reporting.
  • Identify and evaluate clinical practice and patient safety risks and internal controls for new CST initiatives across PHSA and identify partnership opportunities. Advocate and influence CST clinical content to ensure specialized BC Cancer expertise is included in system design. Support the development of required education programs, training and communication processes, and mentoring initiatives across BC Cancer related to CST implementation, to align with CST project.
 

You have:

  • Education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in a relevant health care discipline.
  • Ten (10) years recent, related experience in a senior project or leadership position in health care (preferably oncology.)
  • Innovative leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction and to resolve problems resourcefully.
  • Proven ability to foster a collaborative team approach to decision-making.
  • Effective fiscal and financial management skills.
  • Effective skills in the application of informatics technology in the workplace.
  • Exceptional communication, inter-personal, and public relations skills.
  • Proven ability to manage significant change initiatives and large scale projects across multiple organizations and negotiate and mediate resolutions to complex situations.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with staff at all organizational levels, internally and externally.
  • Excellent time management skills.
