The Organ Donation Specialist (ODS) functions as an integral part of the Organ Donation & Hospital Development (ODHD) Team and as a provincial resource to critical care providers.


Your role will be responsible for: 

  • Assisting the critical care providers through the various stages of organ donation and transplantation, including donor assessment and family support
  • The compilation and analysis of data for Quality Assurance
  • The formal development and delivery of educational programs on solid organ donation for health care professionals throughout the province of British Columbia (BC)


You have: 

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a Health Sciences Program;
  • Three to five (3-5) years of critical care or organ donation experience;
  • Certification or equivalent experience in the education of public and/or as a health-care professional;
  • Designation as a healthcare professional in the critical care setting (nursing respiratory therapy, social work, Physician's Assistant, Nurse Practitioner) preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and facilitate consensus within the donation and transplantation stakeholder community
  • Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in the areas of program development and implementation, quality improvement, leadership, management and professional education, including knowledge of adult education principles and methods
  • Compassionate, dedicated and professional leadership skills
  • highly motivated individual with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish effective working relationships within the multi-disciplinary hospital environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage numerous concurrent tasks in a high stress environment
  • Demonstrated strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills with all levels of personnel in the health care field with the ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical information
  • Demonstrated excellent facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including computer literacy in programs such as Word and Excel and knowledge of patient information systems

**Successful Candidates will participate in an on-call rotation is required to ensure 24/7 program coverage.  This includes working days, evenings, nights, weekdays and weekends**
