BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. Respiratory Therapist I

Wage: $28.00 to $34.95 per hour

Under the direction of the Professional Practice Leader, Respiratory Therapy, you will provide routine and intensive respiratory care, as part of a dynamic interprofessional team, to patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Labour & Delivery Unit. In accordance with established policies, clinical pathways and professional standards you will review medical histories, conduct assessments of pathophysical condition and recommend appropriate patient care, documenting all responses and outcomes.

 

You will also recommend and administer individualized medical gas therapies as well as initiate, monitor and assess ventilator dependent patients. In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will also participate in departmental, program and health committees and attend departmental/ program meetings to provide and exchange information.

 

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy and successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination. You also possess current registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT), as well as current Basic Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification. Your highly developed communication, organizational and critical thinking skills will assist you in setting priorities, meeting deadlines and functioning efficiently in an environment with workload fluctuations, while current and continuing knowledge and understanding of all pertinent respiratory related equipment will ensure your success in this key role.
