BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services. Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children (SHHC), a leading provincial facility offering specialized services to children and youth with developmental disabilities from birth to age 19, works collaboratively with BCCH. Child Psychiatry Unit
Temporary Fulltime until September 2018
Days of Work: Rotating
Hours of Work: 0730-1600 & 2245-0800 Rotating
The Child Psychiatry Unit is a 10 bed unit provides inpatient psychiatric services to children under 12 years old from mainland BC and the Yukon. Children are generally admitted to the Child Psychiatry program through a planned admission process.
Working collaboratively as part of an inter-professional team and within an evidence based Trauma Informed model of care, the General Duty Nurse, BC Children’s Mental Health supports all aspects of therapeutic care of patients with behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric presentations and their families/caregivers. Provides and coordinates nursing care services such as patient assessment, patient and family teaching, and health promotion activities for mental health patients and their families, consistent with established policies, standards of practice and philosophy of the BC Children’s Mental Health Program.
- Graduation from a recognized program in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
- Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC)
- One (1) year of recent experience working in a child/adolescent psychiatric pediatric mental health care setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
