In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Clerk, Chemotherapy/Daycare performs a variety of clerical duties such as reception, booking appointments, and processing doctor's orders and requisitions
1. Performs receptionist functions such as directing patients, visitors and staff to the appropriate areas, answering incoming telephone calls and responding to enquiries by providing information (ie. patient appointment times) or relaying verbal and written messages to the appropriate staff members.
2.Processes written doctors' orders which includes:
a.Completing requisitions for tests or services.
b.Using the multi-resource scheduling system to book tests or services with the appropriate departments; books return appointments.
c.Booking special clinic appointments such as consultations and operating room procedures.
d.Completing and forwarding documentation according to procedure, such as billings for special clinics.
e.Recording all booking information via computer terminal.
f.Reviewing chemotherapy wait-list daily, booking appointments and notifying patients of their appointments.
3.Requests patient charts from the Health Records department in preparation for chemotherapy and daycare appointments.
4.Shows patients to treatment rooms; arranges for escort services, delivery of meals and snacks, and other services when requested by a nurse.
5.Maintains stock of stationery supplies by performing duties such as completing requisitions for the Clinical Nurse Leader’s signature and stocking rooms with appropriate equipment.
6.Records and tallies treatment and other related statistics from computer lists as requested.
7.Delivers charts and drugs, and escorts patients to treatment and other areas as requested.
8.Maintains timekeeping records for regular and relief staff and submits/enters to payroll systems as required. Receives and processes requests such as vacation, leave of absence and terminations by preparing necessary documentation and forwarding to appropriate authority for approval.
9.Performs other related duties as required.
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program plus one (1) year's recent related or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
