As the Medical Director of the program reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Ambulatory Programs and to the Department Head, Medicine, the mandate of the Medical Director is to lead forward through innovation and engagement and apply rigorously appraised evidence based practice to address medical needs of the patients referred.

 

The Complex Chronic Diseases Program (CCDP) is an interdisciplinary program that treats and supports patients both men and women who suffer from a group of complex chronic diseases which include but are not limited to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome and Lyme disease. The goal for the program is to provide patient-centred care through comprehensive assessment on bio-psycho-social needs and symptom management by our multidisciplinary team of health care providers. This approach emphasizes that treatment choice takes patient preferences into account, and that self-care is supported as well as treatment. Central to this is the development of partnership in care, and facilitation of patient involvement during assessment and in the decision making about treatment decisions.

 

This unique and challenging role requires a dedicated senior leader to assume accountability for quality of care. You will benefit from all of the resources that come with being affiliated with the Women's Health Research Institute (WHRI.org).

 

The successful incumbent will have at least 5 years experience with one or more of these patient groups, demonstrated abilities to work with interdisciplinary health care teams, excellent communication skills, and experience working with community groups.  Demonstrated abilities to conduct scientific inquiries, as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed literature is an asset to the role.

 

Relevant specialty training would be an asset, and you are registered with, or eligible for registration with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia. A minimum of 3 years experience in a management or leadership position required. Research experience is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have or be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
