Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Manager, Design Services to plan, develop and implement building designs. Accountabilities will include the need to compile feasibility reports, determine environmental impacts, create project proposals. The Manager, Design Services will direct the project consultant for the development of project drawings from preliminary design to those issued for construction and specifications.


We are looking for a creative and inspired design professional to handle projects which will include managing client relationships, developing and presenting design proposals, preparing drawings, specifications, budgets, construction documents, and managing project teams. You should be able to take ownership of your project, be it the design of greenfield projects, an extension, alterations or a restoration project, to deliver on the Extendicare’s requirements.


As a skilled designer, to be successful in this position you should be able to visualize space in three dimensions, have a good understanding of construction technologies, and be an effective project manager. An outstanding Design Leader will have strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate superior technical design skills and be able to create designs that are functional, creative and sustainable and improve the lives of the residents who this home will serve.




Under the direction of the company’s Vice President, Project Development & Construction, assist with project design from concept development through to completion of the full lifecycle of multiple simultaneous Long-Term Care projects across Canada. Duties shall include:

  • Engaging in the early feasibility of projects.
  • Meeting with Extendicare’s key stake holders, including Operations and Facilities teams, in determining their needs and requirements.
  • Being familiar with planning approval process and being comfortable acting as the “Owners Representative” at Local Council Meeting Panning Committee & Committee of Adjustments or LPAT.
  • Managing design projects from concept development through to design completion.
  • Developing and presenting project proposals.
  • Adjusting designs and plans to meet the client's needs.
  • Hiring project external Consulting Team.
  • Working with Consulting Team to ensure that they complete the Preparation of drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Conducting research and compiling reports on feasibility and environmental impact.
  • Complying with Long Term Care Design Guidelines, safety standards and local planning regulations.
  • Determining and adhering to budgets and timelines.
  • Managing project teams and collaborating with other development professionals.
  • Processing permit response letters and coordinating revisions with engineers and consultants to obtain necessary documentation and permits

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Architect/Architectural Technologist preferred.
  • Excellent technical drawing skills.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and software programs such as AutoCAD LT 2021, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Newforma, etc.
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulatory standards.
  • Strong creative and visualization skills.
  • Knowledge of MLTC Design Guidelines would be an asset.
