BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) is hiring a Coordinator, Psychological Health & Safety (PHS)

 

Role Summary

 

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of BC Emergency Health Services, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at BC Emergency Health Services, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all patient and employee safety aspects of this position.

 

The Coordinator, Psychological Health & Safety (PHS), supports the overall goals, objectives, and operations of the designated PHS portfolio across BCEHS. The role has primary responsibility for one or more PHS programmes and/or projects, including strategic and confidential initiatives, in a complex, evolving multidisciplinary environment. Reporting to the Psychological Health & Safety Practice Leader or designate, the Coordinator coordinates and implements employee programmes, projects, special initiatives, knowledge exchange, research, information dissemination, and education for key internal and external partners, including other Health Authorities, community partners, and Unions. The role is actively involved in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating PHS projects and strategic initiatives, including attending management meetings and providing feedback and recommendations, particularly those related to labour relations or human resource management. The Coordinator, Human Resources, compiles confidential business reports, employee data, and documents; exercises discretion while cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships; and monitors expenditures and performs variance reporting.

 

Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness: This position is responsible for coordinating, implementing and evaluating holistic organisational health and wellbeing projects and initiatives, such as EFAP, the psychological health and safety standard and health promotion, including the implementation of health and safety programmes. This role supports team members and key partners or interested parties in assessing organisational health and wellbeing needs and priorities, and provides recommendations on health, safety and wellbeing initiatives, thereby fostering healthy and safe workspaces.

 

  • Workplace Experience: This position is responsible for coordinating, implementing and evaluating projects and initiatives related to workplace culture and experience programmes within the organisation, including onboarding, recognition, employee engagement and employee voice initiatives such as organisational surveys/reviews. This role supports team members and key partners in assessing workplace culture needs and and priorities and provides recommendations on workplace culture and experience initiatives and in doing so, fostering engaged workspaces and work experience.

 

What you’ll do

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Psychological Health & Safety (PHS), Workplace Health, Safety & Wellness, and Workplace Experience programs, projects, and initiatives that support employee wellbeing, engagement, workplace culture, and organizational health across BCEHS.
  • Lead and support strategic and confidential initiatives, ensuring project objectives, deliverables, timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements are achieved in alignment with organizational priorities and applicable policies, procedures, and privacy legislation.
  • Collaborate with leaders, Human Resources, Labour Relations, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, Unions, Health Authority partners, and other stakeholders to assess organizational needs and develop recommendations that support healthy, safe, inclusive, and engaging workplaces.
  • Coordinate initiatives related to employee wellbeing and workplace health promotion, including the Psychological Health and Safety Standard, Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), health and wellness programming, and other initiatives that support employee resilience and psychological safety.
  • Support the development and implementation of workplace experience programs and initiatives, including onboarding, employee recognition, engagement, employee voice activities, organizational surveys, and workplace culture improvement efforts.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret employee, operational, and program-related data to evaluate program effectiveness, identify trends and opportunities, and provide recommendations to leadership to support evidence-informed decision making.\
  • Prepare and maintain confidential reports, presentations, briefing materials, communications, and project documentation related to program activities, outcomes, expenditures, and strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange, education, and information sharing activities, and support the dissemination of best practices, research findings, and program resources to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in working groups, committees, and management meetings, providing subject matter input, recommendations, and support on matters related to psychological health and safety, employee wellbeing, workplace culture, and workforce initiatives.
  • Monitor project and program expenditures, track progress against established objectives, perform variance reporting, and support the effective allocation and stewardship of resources.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, including Health Authorities, community organizations, and union representatives, to support the successful delivery of programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Support continuous quality improvement through the evaluation of programs, projects, and organizational initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance employee experience, wellbeing, and organizational outcomes. 

What you bring

 

Qualifications

 

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to two (2) plus years recent related experience or equivalent work-related experience in a health, social services, government, or community organization.

 

Knowledge of research, quality improvement and clinical practices relevant to the service/program area; health systems and policy; and knowledge exchange. Understanding of and practical skills in project coordination/management, research and evaluation.

 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Relevant computer software applications including desktop publishing, web content management, accreditation portal software at an advanced level
  • Internet search engines, websites, and navigation
  • Funding structures and application processes, training and education
  • Policy review and analysis and facilitation, community development, and partnerships
  • Related experience in conducting literature searches and reviews, best practice reviews, policy analysis, Working collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Qualities including creativity and innovation, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • Sound negotiation, conflict management and consensus-building skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Indigenous Cultural Safety and Diversity

  • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies, including knowledge, and understanding of Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous-specific racism and anti-racism.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Contract

Salary Range: $63,484.00 - $79,355.00

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
