BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) is hiring two Provincial Operations Managers.

BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) delivers life-saving emergency care across one of the largest and most geographically diverse provinces in Canada. From major urban centres to remote and rural communities, our teams operate in a complex, high-demand environment where real-time decision-making matters.

We are seeking two experienced operational leaders for the role of Provincial Operations Manager (POM) - a critical position at the centre of provincial operations, supporting frontline supervisors and helping maintain the overall health of the emergency health system.

 

The Role

Provincial Operations Managers are based within BCEHS Communications Centres, providing 24/7 provincial coverage. At any given time, a POM supports the entire province by maintaining situational awareness, supporting ground-based supervisors, and coordinating responses to emerging operational pressures.

POMs serve as a key link between frontline operations and senior leadership, particularly during high‑demand or complex system events.

 

What you’ll do

• Maintain real-time situational awareness of provincial operations
• Support field-based supervisors with operational decision-making and escalation
• Provide support and coordination during high-acuity events, system pressures, and major incidents
• Identify emerging risks and escalate system-level issues to senior leadership
• Promote consistency in operational decision-making across diverse regions
• Work collaboratively with dispatch, field supervision, and system partners
• Contribute to a safe, responsive, and high-performing operational environment
• Work, coordinate and communicate with Ground Operations Leadership 

 

What It Looks Like

BCEHS operates a hybrid supervision model, where:

• Field-based supervision varies across metro, urban, rural, and remote environments
• Station-based supervisors often balance clinical and supervisory responsibilities
• Dedicated off-ambulance supervisors are physically present in metro and urban areas, with the ability to provide virtual support to rural and remote locations as needed.

In this environment, POMs play a critical role in system surveillance; ensuring that operational risks are identified and addressed within the appropriate leadership streams.

 

What you bring

You are an experienced operational leader who understands the realities of frontline emergency services and thrives in complex, fast-paced environments.

• A combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field, with 3+ years of demonstrated operational management experience in an emergency responder environment.
• A proven track record of leadership, professionalism, integrity, and sound decision-making under pressure
• The ability to lead and support significant incidents, providing calm, coordinated direction in high-risk or rapidly evolving situations
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse partners
• Strong understanding of BCEHS and broader EMS systems, with the ability to align decisions with organizational priorities
• Experience using data to inform decisions, identify risk, and drive continuous improvement
• The ability to evaluate performance and hold yourself and others accountable for results

 

Additional requirements:

• Valid driver’s license
• Annual fit test in accordance with the respiratory protection program
• Licensure, or the ability to obtain a license in accordance with the Emergency Medical Assistant Licensing Board regulations
• Physical ability to assist in the role of a paramedic if required
• Willingness to work in various locations and outside regular business hours as required

 

Working Conditions

• 24/7 shift-based role (12-hour shifts)
• Based within BCEHS Communications Centres (Langford)
• Responsible for province-wide oversight during assigned shifts

Typical Hiring Range: $108,147 - $135,184

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
