Expression of Interest: Psychological Health & Safety Facilitators

 

The BCEHS Employee Health and Wellbeing team is seeking facilitators to support the delivery of Psychological Health & Safety education across the organization, including ALERT: Suicide Alertness and Response Training and other evidence-informed wellbeing initiatives.

 

The Psychological Health & Safety Program is grounded in the belief that psychological health is a shared responsibility and that meaningful conversations about mental health, resilience, psychological injury, and suicide prevention contribute to healthier individuals, teams, and workplaces.

 

We are seeking employees from all departments, regions, and occupational groups who are passionate about supporting the wellbeing of their colleagues and helping foster psychologically safer workplaces.

 

Facilitators will deliver standardized curriculum and create psychologically safe learning environments that encourage reflection, discussion, skill development, and meaningful engagement with challenging topics.

 

Please note: This opportunity is distinct from the BCEHS Learning Department Instructor Program. Participation as a Psychological Health & Safety Facilitator does not confer BCEHS instructor status and does not qualify individuals to teach other BCEHS educational programs. In addition, successful applicants are not deemed qualified for other specialized/supervisory positions and thus may not lateral into such roles

 

Facilitator Expectations

 

Successful applicants will:

• Successfully complete all required facilitator training and certification requirements
• Deliver Psychological Health & Safety educational programming as assigned
• Maintain competency through ongoing professional development and recertification activities
• Adhere to program standards, facilitation guidelines, and confidentiality expectations
• Demonstrate professionalism, cultural humility, and psychological safety in all learning environments
• Be available to facilitate educational sessions on a regular basis, including occasional evenings and weekends as operationally required

Successful facilitators will serve as ambassadors of psychological health and wellbeing within BCEHS and will be expected to model the values of respect, empathy, professionalism, cultural safety, and psychological safety.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate one or more of the following:

1. Current or previous involvement with the BCEHS Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Program
2. Completion of Ambulance Paramedics of BC Trauma Resilience Training (TRT)
3. Experience facilitating adult education, workshops, group discussions, peer support activities, or educational programming
4. Demonstrated commitment to psychological health, wellbeing, and psychologically safe workplaces
5. Completion of San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training and/or PHSA Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training (ARRT)
6. Commitment to advancing reconciliation, cultural safety, diversity, equity, and inclusion within BCEHS
7. Completion of Ambulance Paramedics of Mental Health First Aid

 

Additional qualities that may strengthen an application include:

• Ability to create psychologically safe and inclusive learning environments
• Application of trauma-informed and psychologically health-promoting facilitation practices
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to learner distress or emotional activation
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and group facilitation skills
• Ability to connect educational content to real-world BCEHS operational contexts
• Capacity for self-reflection, emotional regulation, and professional boundary setting when facilitating sensitive topics

 

Application Requirements

Interested applicants are asked to submit:

• A brief letter (maximum one page) outlining:

• Why you are interested in becoming a Psychological Health & Safety Facilitator
• Any relevant facilitation, teaching, peer support, or wellbeing-related experience
• Your current role and work location

1. One written recommendation from a supervisor or manager.
2. One written recommendation from a colleague who can comment on your communication, facilitation, or interpersonal skills.

 

Selection Process

Applicants will be assessed through the following process:

• Satisfactory disciplinary record
• Interview with representatives from the Psychological Health & Safety Program (90% of overall score)
• Seniority weighting (10% of overall score)
• Confidential safety suitability assessment with a registered mental health professional

 

As part of the final selection process, applicants will participate in a confidential safety suitability assessment with a registered mental health professional. The purpose of this assessment is to help ensure facilitators are appropriately supported and prepared for the unique responsibilities associated with delivering educational content related to psychological health, resilience, psychological injury, trauma, and suicide awareness. It is not a diagnostic or fitness-for-duty assessment, and no clinical information is shared with BCEHS. The employer receives only a recommendation regarding suitability for this specific facilitator role.

 

Selected applicants must successfully complete the required facilitator training and educational competencies to be deemed qualified.

 

Required Training

Online Prerequisites

• Intro to Psychological Safety (CSA Z1003)
• Just Culture for Leaders
• Trauma Informed Practice for Leaders

 

In Person Prerequisite

• ASIST (2-day Applied Suicide Intervention Training)

 

Train-the-Trainer Programs

• Intro to Psychological Health & Safety for Leaders
• ALERT Suicide Alertness and Response Training

 

Additional training requirements may be added or modified as the program evolves.

Final selection will consider a combination of interview performance, seniority, operational requirements, and provincial representation.
