Note: Position will be based at either FPH or one of the Regional Clinics for the regular Monday–Friday work week.

 


Job Summary:

As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Transcriptionist works in a computerized environment and performs medical transcription, coordinates the Overnight Assessment process for Forensic Psychiatrists, and carries out related clerical duties.

 

Duties/Accountabilities:

  1. Performs medical transcription through methods such as transcribing clinical reports including Court, BC Review Board and BC Mental Health Review Board reports, consultations, conference reports, follow-up reports, admission-discharge summaries and psychiatric reports for inclusion in patients’ records and informs the author that the report is ready for review.
  2. Prepares a weekly schedule of BC Review Board report due dates by receiving the hearing schedule from the Board, matching up the doctors, case managers and social workers assigned to each case, and distributing the schedule electronically.
  3. Prepares an Overnight Assessment schedule for Forensic Psychiatrists to assume responsibility for any referrals received from the Court. Communicates with the Medical Director regarding any scheduling changes or issues arising.
  4. Receives and processes referrals for Overnight Assessments in accordance with Overnight Assessment protocols, including communication directly with the Court, Crown Counsel and Forensic Psychiatrists.
  5. Performs a variety of clerical duties as required, including maintaining files and records and retrieving and preparing patient information from electronic information systems to support clinical and administrative processes.
  6. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities by providing feedback to the supervisor on processes and opportunities for process improvement.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience

  • Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in medical transcription and one (1) year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to keyboard at 60 w.p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
