Job Summary

Salary Range: $90,770-$130,481/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

 


Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Senior Methodologist provides professional expertise in the areas of epidemiologic, clinical, and health services research and knowledge translation as it relates to provincial cancer control.  Works in close partnership with the supervisor, colleagues and collaborators, as well as other experts both internal and external to PHSA, including Provincial cancer leads, relevant Ministries, data managers, health authorities and professional organizations.  The Senior Methodologist plans and conducts advanced research and knowledge translation projects, carries out data analysis, educates stakeholders about research methodologies and interpretation, and writes and edits scientific manuscripts, reports, and other documents.

The Senior Research Methodologist reports to Senior Scientist and Associate Professor Dr. Dean Regier, within the BC Cancer Research Institute and University of British Columbia.

Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Plans, develops and conducts advanced research and knowledge translation projects, and carries out data analysis for clinical, methodologic, health service research and knowledge translation activities for cancer control, consistent with PHSA and BCCA policy and professional standards of practice.
  • Provides coordination, direction, and leadership to designated staff on relevant day to day issues with respect to cancer control research and knowledge translation projects with a population, clinical, or health services perspective.
  • Collaborates in the planning, design, and development of a framework for research and data management, scientific analysis and knowledge translation, to achieve cancer control goals.  Contributes expertise to development of projects including methodologies, approaches, and models.  Participates in cancer control initiatives, chairs and participates in both internal and external meetings as appropriate, and establishes consultation networks as appropriate.  
  • Synthesizes and promotes the utilization of research findings through knowledge translation strategies.  Educates staff and stakeholders about research methodologies and interpretation of relevant research studies.
  • Develops, writes, coordinates and edits scientific manuscripts, reports and other knowledge translation products, including design, compilation, synthesis, dissemination and evaluation.
  • Critically evaluates and appraises complex data and analytic project needs, addresses methodologic and other problems, documents data and analysis components of projects, and ensures project completion to deadlines.  Contributes to development of new research proposals and knowledge translation activities.

Qualifications:

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in Epidemiology, Public or Population Health, Statistics, Biostatistics or related discipline; and demonstrated ability with a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience in a population health or academic research environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of population health research issues, and demonstrated competence in the application of epidemiologic, health services, and statistical methods to cancer control studies.  
  • Detailed knowledge of study design, data collection and analysis.  
  • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced data manipulation, analysis and information presentation through the use of administrative databases, database spreadsheet and statistical software.  
  • Working knowledge of cancer control and health systems.  
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.  
  • Ability to provide direction and coordination within a team while working independently.  
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to comprehend complex issues and related data/information and present information in concise and meaningful ways.  
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to generate work plans to meet project deadlines within timeline, scope and budget.  
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
