Job Summary:
In accordance with the Purpose, Vision, Values and Coast Salish Teachings, and strategic direction of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Performs clinical audiology services including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and reporting with children with, or suspected of having, a hearing disorder. Services are provided in consultation with the patient, family, other service providers and community team members. Participates in education and research as assigned.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Provides assessment, diagnosis and consultation for children with, or suspected of having, a hearing loss, using related diagnostic equipment in assigned clinical service area.
2. Plans and collaborates with community partners for meeting the rehabilitation needs for children with hearing loss.
3. Provides families with support, parent education, and counseling regarding paediatric hearing loss and related issues.
4. Ensures referral of families to community based care providers and other recommended rehabilitation services.
5. Contributes professional input to child specific multidisciplinary team conferences for children with hearing loss or risk factors for hearing loss to ensure audiologic needs are met in service planning.
6. Provides support and consultation to parents and community team members as needed to facilitate implementation of audiologic recommendations. This may be achieved through telephone or direct consultation, through sharing of resource materials and/or provision of education.
7. Documents all case specific work and writes clinical reports as needed to related professionals and caregivers.
8. Maintains workload statistics and billing information.
9. Provides audiological consultation, education and teaching to patients/families, physicians, and related health and allied professionals/disciplines.
10. Contributes as requested in population based research that is related to assigned clinical service
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Masters degree in Audiology from a recognized University program. • One (1) year of recent experience in areas related to childhood hearing loss. • Current full registration as an Audiologist of the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
