Network Edge Engineer 1

Job Summary:

The Network Edge Engineer I operates within a complex multi-site environment and provides technical support to facilitate reliable and efficient network performance and network connectivity for organizations, while adhering to standards and security protocols. The role installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and complies with PHSA policies and standards for installations, hardware maintenance, other applicable equipment and user security access, enabling a secure network infrastructure. The role responds to incidents, service requests, and user or network problems assigned to the Network Edge team by investigating, diagnosing, and remediating any issues within the supported network.
As a key role in the maintenance of a robust and reliable data communications infrastructure, the Network Edge Engineer 1 requires considerable knowledge of the computing environment and maintains current technical knowledge and standards. The role provides technical advice as required and collaborates with other team members, network administrators, and IT support staff to address network issues, maintain standard operations and to convey technical information and updates to team members and other vested parties.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1. Responds to incidents assigned to the Network Edge team, analyzes and diagnoses problems, and works towards timely resolution. Troubleshoots network connectivity, identifies hardware or software failures, and implements corrective action.
2. Responds to service requests/user problems related to the Network Edge infrastructure. Configures network devices, sets up user accounts, installs software updates, and addresses user access or connectivity issues.
3. Assists in the operational maintenance and support of the network edge infrastructure. Monitors network performance, conducts routine maintenance tasks, and monitors to ensure network equipment and software are up to date.
4. Assists in planning, developing, and recommending specifications for hardware and software upgrades. Researches and evaluates new technologies, assists in the procurement process, and participates in the implementation of upgrades as required.
5. Maintains accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures. Updates network diagrams, records changes made to the network infrastructure, and creates documentation for troubleshooting or operational purposes.
6. Provides technical support to users experiencing network-related issues. Assists users with connectivity problems, addresses network security concerns, and guides users through basic network troubleshooting steps.
7. Works on data network projects as required. Meets with vendors, assesses product design and costs, evaluates current network, plans implementation and timeframe, organizes vendor demonstrations, and assists in producing and evaluating requests for proposals.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience
• Grade 12, graduation from a recognized two-year computer system technology diploma program, plus three years’ recent related experience, or graduation from a recognized degree in Computer Science plus two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to type.
