BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre (BCW) is seeking an experienced and collaborative physician leader to serve as Medical Lead, Maternal Ambulatory Program.



Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Outpatient Maternity Services and Mature Women’s Health the Medical Lead provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Maternal Ambulatory Program. Working in partnership with program managers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will support excellence in patient care, quality improvement, physician engagement, and program development.


This is a 0.20 FTE Medical Administrative Partnership (MAP) leadership position.



About the Program
The Maternal Ambulatory Program provides specialized outpatient services supporting pregnant individuals and families across British Columbia. The program includes:
• Diabetes in Pregnancy
• Hematology
• Iron Infusion
• Obstetric Internal Medicine
• Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic
• New Beginnings
• Milk Bank


The Medical Lead will provide leadership support to these services and future ambulatory maternal health initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

 

• Provide leadership and operational support across the Maternal Ambulatory Program.
• Partner with Program Managers to ensure quality care, continuous improvement, and effective utilization of resources.
• Support efficient clinic operations, patient access initiatives, physician engagement, and workforce planning.
• Participate in ambulatory, maternal, and organizational leadership committees and meetings.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, allied health professionals, and community partners to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
• Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, chart reviews, patient safety investigations, and resolution of patient concerns.
• Support implementation of evidence-based practices, program innovations, and service improvements.
• Provide input into operational and capital planning processes.
• Support physician resource planning, recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning activities.
• Foster strategic partnerships that advance quality, innovation, education, research, and access to care.
• Support the academic mission of BC Women's Hospital through teaching, research, and knowledge translation activities.
• Promote accreditation standards and organizational priorities.

 

 


Qualifications
• Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
• Royal College certification (or equivalent) in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Internal Medicine, or another relevant specialty.
• Previous experience in physician leadership, quality improvement, program development, or administrative roles.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within complex interdisciplinary healthcare environments.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, patient-centred care, and continuous quality improvement.

What we do


BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s provides Ambulatory and Inpatient Services for women with substance use disorder. Advances and provincial expansion of service for this population is a strategic priority. As an academic health centre BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.
