Job Summary

Salary Range: $69,218-$99,501/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.


Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Leader, Research Information Systems, the Web and Network Coordinator works within a team of experts to provide technical support to BC Cancer Research Centre (BCCRC) users.  Functions overseen by this position include the update and maintenance of the Research portion of the BC Cancer Agency’s (BCCA) website and the delivery of all network services to the research community.

Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Participates as a member of the IS Team in the planning and design of the BCCRC network and ensures the network security policies are being implemented and complied with.
  • Ensures the smooth functioning of all network services (including workstations, file servers, email etc) and that adequate and regular backup are being performed on all systems. Provides users in the supported research departments with assistance and training in the addition of content as needed.
  • Provides administration and support for remote access and monitors software licensing to ensure compliance with security and confidentiality requirements.
  • Leads the activities of the team in areas such as data storage; network management including content, overall structure, and custom design of additional software; application and database management; help desk management and/or HPC, grid and cloud management. Provides expertise in software development, programming, network security and server capacity and maintenance. Maintains knowledge with current and new technology and software.

Qualifications:

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or a relevant discipline plus three years’ recent related experience preferably in website script programming or website design.  
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of world wide web technologies, developments and issues.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of programming languages including Perl, Apache and XML. 
  •  Advanced interpersonal and customer service skills as well as a high level problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions and determine appropriate action as required.
