Job Responsibilities

Successful candidates will report to the appropriate Paramedic Practice Educator within their region and will support a number of responsibilities such as:

  • Providing face-to-face instruction, delivery and supervision of employees engaged in clinical education.
  • Facilitating academic, skill station and classroom simulation.
  • Facilitating clinical instruction and supervision in conjunction with the Paramedic Practice Educator.
  • Attending regular instructor development opportunities as required
  • Providing content expertise acting as a subject matter expert for course development
  • Other duties relating to the training and development of BCEHS paramedics as required.
  • Demonstrating professional, respectful, collaborative, and ethical behavior as outlined in the BCEHS Fostering a Culture of Respect Policy
  • Maintaining confidentiality and protecting the privacy of BCEHS employees and patients in compliance with BCEHS and PHSA privacy policies.
  • Completing other duties as required.
  • Maintaining a satisfactory work record

Training

Successful candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete a variety of training, including but not limited to, courses, orientation, and field training. 

 

Successful candidates must: 

  • Complete instructor training for courses as they arise. 
  • Demonstrate completion of all required training prior to the roll-out of classes. 
  • Be available to instruct on a regular basis – including off hours.

Selection Criteria & Process

As per 13.03 of the collective agreement. 

 

Essential Requirement:

 

  1. CUPE member
  2. Must have three (3) years plus a day of experience within BCEHS at the relevant Paramedic level as applicable (PCP)
  3. Satisfactory work record; must be maintained for the duration of this qualification

 

The above noted qualifiers must be achieved by the closing of the posting per standard selection processes for CUPE 873 employees.

  1. Knowledge/Skills Assessment (45% of total score)

Applicants will be required to successfully complete a knowledge/skills assessment at a passing rate of 75%. This assessment is online through the Learning Hub and must be completed from a location with reliable internet access. The online assessment will be sent to qualified candidates’ BCEHS email and will be available for a 24-hour period. Eligible applicants will be notified of the exam date(s) at least 7 days in advance.

 

  1. Interview (45% of total score)

 

Applicants who successfully achieve a score of 75% or higher on the Knowledge/Skills Assessment will be scheduled to interview. Eligible applicants will be notified of the interview date(s) at least 7 days in advance. Please check your BCEHS email for interview invites if you are successful on the exam.

Should you be unsuccessful on the written exam or pass the exam but not participate in the interview process, you will be counted as "unsuccessful" and will not be eligible to compete on roles in the same classification for a period of 6 months.

 

  1. Full-Time Seniority (10% of total score)

 

Up to 10% will be applied to eligible candidates who complete the interview to determine their final score. 

 

 

The successful candidate(s) shall be the employee(s) with the highest total score and a satisfactory disciplinary record.
