Salary Range: $90,770-$130,481/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

The Senior Business Analyst plays a key role in supporting BC Cancer’s clinical, operational, and strategic initiatives, working at the intersection of data, strategy, and service planning. Reporting to the Manager, Data & Analytics - Planning, the role focuses on developing projections, scenario models, and service plans that inform how cancer care is delivered across the province. The position will have a deep understanding of key cancer care services within the organization and will be part of a growing planning team to support data driven decision-making.
This position partners closely with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders within BC Cancer and across the health system to translate data into actionable insights that help shape future service models. The role requires strong analytical capability, structured thinking, and the ability to navigate complex planning questions with a high degree of ambiguity.
This is a high-impact role that combines technical expertise with strategic leadership, going beyond reporting to use data to inform decisions on system growth, service design, and long-term planning for cancer care in BC.
This position is hybrid with the office based out of 601 West Broadway in Vancouver B.C.
Duties/Accountabilities:
- Leads and supports cancer care program services planning and performance monitoring through the development of reports using various BI tools, direct data extraction and analysis. Provides specialized knowledge, analytical, and technical expertise in information management processes utilizing a deep understanding of data standards in relation to establishing quality reports;
- Lead and support the formal data collection and analysis to help identify system deficiencies and/or operational inefficiencies in order to report and develop new ways of improving business efficiencies including the data analysis related to business case developments, project proposals, and other key strategic and transformative initiatives;
- Support BCCA executives and senior program leaders with cancer care program health services planning, as well as, ongoing operational reporting requirements through the analytics of data with a deep understanding of performance metrics and benchmarking;
- Ensures the quality, accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of the data and reports available within our current clinical application and data warehouse environment (ie CAIS and BI tools) through meticulous testing, automated and manual data reviews, performance monitoring, contingency planning, consistency reviews, and other methods as appropriate;
- Leads the analysis, design, and documentation of multi-dimensional data cubes, ETLs, BI reports, and interfaces to support operations and research functions of BCA, collaborating with PHSA Performance Measurement and Reporting and other project team members as needed. This includes gathering requirements from stakeholders; negotiating changes in the context of the vision of the current (ie CAIS, Pharmacy, Screening and Radiation Therapy) and future data warehouse; defining appropriate cube dimensions, measures, and attributes; translating user requirements to technical requirements for any BI development, designing reports; researching solutions; and implementing change management
- Ability to develop costing projections and models based on operational and research data to support various reports and cancer service planning.
- Develop high-quality presentations with a strong understanding of developing meaningful communication materials “right communication, right content ad right audience”
Qualifications:
- A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s in Health Information Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics or related discipline plus 5 years of experience in health information management and/or 3 years of recent experience in health services planning, data warehousing, data analytics and use of BI tools.
- This role requires a superior degree of critical-thinking and analytical skills with the ability to integrate broad system thinking/perspective with data to develop quality reports, operational plans and monitor on-going performances.
- This role also requires superior written skills with a high degree of producing concise, structured and very well written documents and reports.
- Understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle and project management methodology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to express complex ideas in simple terminology appropriate for the audience.
- Demonstrated ability to use database, spreadsheets, word-processing, powerpoint and other software at advanced level. Advanced analytics knowledge (e.g. mathematical programing, computer simulation, decision processes), professional project management and/or Lean/Six-sigma certification considered an asset.
