Job Summary

Salary Range: $63,484-$91,259/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.


Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director and working within the context of a population health promotion culture, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, vision and values of BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, the Coordinator, Knowledge Translation provides administrative and technical services to implement the Hospital + Health Centre knowledge translation and exchange strategy. The Coordinator assists with creating awareness and promotion of a strong positive profile for the agency among internal and external audiences, including patients and their families, C&W staff, physicians, volunteers, the media, the medical community, the health care industry, all levels of government and the general public. The Coordinator participates in the development and implementation of BC Women’s knowledge translation plan, supporting both the PHSA and C&W’s strategic directions, with a particular emphasis on population health initiatives.  This position recommends and implements a variety of internal and external knowledge translation activities including the website, social media portfolio, and various print and online tools. The Coordinator contacts, clinicians, staff, partners and funders on a regular basis to identify needs, prepare and obtain approval for materials to be meet health communications needs. This position is responsible for liaising with communications colleagues within the agency, other PHSA entities, and PHSA Corporate, as well as with communication programs and activities involving third parties.

Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Contributes to developing and implementing knowledge translation plans for Population Health Promotion and prepares regular reports on knowledge translation activities and their impact with reference to defined milestone targets.
  • Researches, recommends and implements a number of internal and external knowledge translation activities such as knowledge translation events for the general public, website enhancements, and clinical education tools
  • Facilitates the development, production, distribution and evaluation of online, print and video health communications and knowledge translation products.
  • Facilitates the maintenance of systems to support the use of visual and editorial standards and style guides in the production of materials and knowledge translation activities.
  • Writes, edits and coordinates production of a variety of print materials such as brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, etc.
  • Works with appropriate vendors such as designers, printers, programmers and other suppliers.
  • Provides work direction to photographers contracted by C&W. Processes requests for photo use, coordinates use of stock images as required, coordinates updating and record-keeping with attention to consent, photo credit, licensing and copyright concerns. Under the direction of the Director, Population Health Promotion, coordinates implementation of visual identity guidelines and graphics standards, including providing direction to staff and external suppliers on usage as required.
  • Develops content for the agency websites and supports and monitors agency editors and authors with capacity-building activities to ensure the accuracy, maintenance of organizational standards and style
  • Edits and proofreads publications for accuracy.
  • Maintains awareness of new developments and trends in online and print communications through literature review, contact with peers at other organizations, industry advisor groups and professional associations, and attendance at seminars, workshops and education programs.
  • Identifies opportunities for cross-organization and cross-health authority economies of scale, standardization efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Assists in monitoring expenditures, expense reimbursements and invoices. Completes purchase requisitions/online purchasing and forwards for processing, and ensures invoices are authorized for payment and submitted for payment.

Qualifications:

  • A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Masters degree in a relevant discipline such as Digital Media, Communications or Journalism, combined with at least five years of experience in a health communications role.
  • Experience executing communications plans through digital and print media.
  • Experience with web content management systems, social media administration, print production, and monitoring tools. Ideally, experience with video creation/editing for web/online content.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.  
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Sharepoint and web-based programs.
  • Understanding of SEO, website information architecture, and intranet/web analytics is advantageous, as is knowledge of Photoshop.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexibility to reprioritize quickly to meet changing priorities, and ability to navigate complex organizational environment.
