Job Summary


BC Cancer – Victoria’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Centre is a world class cancer research facility with a focus on cancer immunotherapy. We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to research immune responses to cancer and support the translation of discoveries into novel therapies that enhance anti cancer immunity.


This position is a two year term, with the possibility of extension contingent on funding availability and demonstrated performance.


Role Summary

 

Reporting to Dr. Brad Nelson, Distinguished Scientist and Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) will play a key role in advancing immuno oncology research. The incumbent will develop and test experimental hypotheses, design and execute research protocols, and independently coordinate assigned research projects. The PDF will analyze complex datasets, refine and develop laboratory methodologies, and contribute to the dissemination of scientific findings through publications, presentations, and grant applications.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Propose original experimental hypotheses and design research questions and protocols in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
  • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and report on assigned research projects using established scientific techniques and advanced technical expertise.
  • Identify issues related to experimental design or laboratory protocols, communicate them to the Principal Investigator, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Prepare Research Ethics Board (REB) applications and amendments, and ensure ongoing compliance with REB and institutional guidelines.
  • Develop novel laboratory methods and adapt existing procedures to support evolving research needs.
  • Collect, record, analyze, validate, interpret, and organize research data; communicate findings clearly and effectively to the Principal Investigator.
  • Recommend future research directions based on experimental results in consultation with the Principal Investigator.
  • Identify potential grant and fellowship funding opportunities and contribute to the development of research proposals and budgets.
  • Apply for external Postdoctoral Fellowship funding.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews relevant to research focus areas.
  • Contribute intellectual and scientific content to manuscripts for peer reviewed publications.
  • Present research findings at national and international scientific conferences.
  • Build and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with the Principal Investigator and internal and external research partners.

 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental research, data analysis, and scientific communication.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple research activities independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
