BC Emergency Health Services is seeking employees to participate in the Canadian Cancer Society 2026 Cops for Cancer tours. Cops for Cancer is a charity cycling tour which occurs in four regions (Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Victoria, Prince George) to raise money for childhood cancer research. BCEHS employees are eligible to participate as first responder riders on the tour.

Cops for Cancer riders come from all departments within BCEHS – they may be CUPE 873 paramedics, BCGEU support staff or non-contract leaders. Being a rider comes with a significant commitment to fundraising and training. Participants ride approximately 700 to 800+ km over six to eight consecutive days, often tackling difficult terrain and unpredictable weather. Riders frequently travel up to 100km or more per day. While physically demanding, the ride is also a very emotional experience, as riders interact with children and families affected by cancer at various stops along the tour.

Note, BCEHS does not select riders for the Cops for Cancer tour. Rather, the BCEHS will provide support (e.g., via approved leave and/or wage maintenance) to support riders selected by the Canadian Cancer Society in their mission to raise awareness and support the fight against childhood cancer. Accommodation will be provided, when necessary, per the tour. Wage Maintenance will be provided for eligible employees per BCEHS FIN 001 and the Cops for Cancer FAQ document.

There will be volunteer commitments associated with this work, specifically during the pre-event orientation, non-wage maintenance qualifying dates within the tour (e.g., Peloton Rides), and other event duties outside of the tour riding times.
