Job Summary


Job Summary:

As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Lead Hand/Supervisor, Housekeeping performs a variety of housekeeping and cleaning duties and directs and coordinates 5 to 16 housekeeping staff as assigned and is responsible for the completion of assignments according to departmental policies and standards and safe practices and procedures, such as Workers’ Compensation Board regulations and standards.

Duties/Accountabilities:

  1. Supervises designated staff by performing duties such as directing and coordinating a variety of housekeeping and cleaning work assignments and ensures the completion of assignments, determining related training and orientation requirements and providing input to employee performance evaluations. Provides hands on training and monitoring to ensure standard are met for various tasks/routines as directed by the Supervisor and/or Manager. Maintains related reports and records.
  2. Monitors housekeeping and cleaning supplies inventory levels using established weekly quota sheets and informs Supervisor and/or Manager when more supplies and equipment are needed.
  3. Compiles a daily shift report for the management and supervisory team that includes details of any sick calls and who covered those areas, documenting any incidents that occurred during the shift and provides updates on any projects or events that were scheduled.
  4. Cleans and maintains areas such as floors, entrances, lobbies, patios, elevators, escalators, stairways, walls, windows, and walkways by methods such as sweeping, spot washing, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing, burnishing, polishing, pressure washing and removing waste.
  5. Cleans carpets and rugs by methods such as vacuuming, shampooing, brushing and shaking.
  6. Cleans and disinfects areas such as walls, windows, doors, mirrors, light fixtures, ceilings, air vents and ducts; washes and disinfects items such as waste receptacles and dietary carts.
  7. Cleans and disinfects items such as furniture, woodwork, ledges, fixtures and blinds by methods such as dusting, polishing and wiping.
  8. Cleans and disinfects washrooms and replenishes supplies such as soap and towels.
  9. Strips and washes beds and makes beds according to instructions of the area. Cleans and tidies items such as cupboards, lockers, basins and tables. Hangs and removes items such as window drapes and bed curtains using equipment such as step ladders.
  10. Transports furniture and/or equipment manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts to a designated area.
  11. Empties and cleans waste containers from a variety of areas such as patient rooms, soiled rooms, offices and lobbies. Sorts and packages biomedical waste and recyclable materials for transport. Removes garbage from buildings and transports to central collection area.
  12. Locks windows and doors following facility security procedures.
  13. Reports damaged and/or inoperable fixtures, equipment and furniture and discusses concerns and issues with the Supervisor and/or Manager.
  14. Maintains related equipment by cleaning, lubricating and replacing parts such as filters, vacuum bags and belts.
  15. Maintains all laundry items used by the housekeeping team such as mops and rags, ensuring that it is washed and dried by the end of each shift.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Education, Training and Experience

  • Grade 10 plus three years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
