BCEHS is seeking a Labour Relations Consultant to provide expert LR guidance and support within a complex, unionized pre-hospital environment.

In this role, you will partner with leaders and HR colleagues to proactively resolve labour relations issues, interpret collective agreements, and help create the conditions for effective, respectful labour-management relationships so frontline teams can focus on delivering high-quality patient care. 

You are a trusted advisor to operational leaders and HR partners, providing clear, practical labour relations guidance in high impact situations.

 

What you’ll do

  • Act as the primary labour relations advisor for assigned BCEHS portfolios building strong partnerships and supporting operational and strategic goals.Provide expert consultation to leaders and HR partners on LR implications related to discipline, attendance, accommodation, scheduling, organizational changes, certifications and special projects. 
  • Interpret APADBA and FBA/BCGEU collective agreements and ensure consistent application of arbitration decisions, settlements and LR policies across PHSA.
  • Lead grievance management, negotiate on complex labour disputes, and represent PHSA in arbitration and Labour Relations Board processes.
  • Negotiate with union representatives on disputes, local issues, and settlements.
  • Advise leaders on labour relations implications related to discipline, attendance, accommodation, scheduling, and workforce change.
  • Participate in union–management meetings, support collective agreement implementation, and strengthen union-management relationships.
  • Deliver guidance, training, and communication to leaders and HR teams on LR issues, trends, legislation, and best practices.
  • Stay current on BC labour legislation, arbitration decisions, and healthcare labour relations trends.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of labour relations experience in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting complex collective agreements.
  • Hands‑on experience managing grievances and arbitrations.
  • Strong negotiation, judgment, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Clear, confident communication—especially in high‑stakes situations.
  • Proficiency with HR systems and Microsoft Office tools.
