This EOI is open to all CUPE PCPIV licensed employees attached to Provincial Clinical Air Operations stations 280, 283, 380, 580.

 

This EOI is for NEW preceptors only - current preceptors do not need to apply

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Learning

  • Provide a safe & supportive educational environment for learning.
  • Discuss and take into account individuals’ learning styles, learning needs, prior learning achievements, knowledge and skills.
  • Discuss, identify, and plan learning strategies to support learners or orientees' to be available to them.
  • Provide timely, honest and constructive feedback on learners’/orientees' performance in an appropriate format.
  • Make clear to learners how they may improve their performance.
  • Utilize Clinical Practice Guidelines to highlight theory and relate to practice during practice placement.
  • When appropriate, liaise with the student’s training school to discuss problematic student issues.
  • Provide oversight over student/orientees' treatment of patients.

Professionalism

  • Demonstrate professional, respectful, collaborative and ethical behavior as outlined in the BCEHS Fostering a Culture of Respect Policy
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of BCEHS employees and patients, as well as learner’s/orientees' performance related to their learning/orientation experiences and needs, in compliance with BCEHS & PHSA privacy policies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consult and work with others in contentious and challenging contexts (e.g., dealing with struggling learners/orientee, formal appeals and complaints)
  • Establish an effective relationship with learner/orientee.

 Engagement

  • Negotiate with all participants in the workplace, including clients, the appropriate learning opportunities and the necessary resources to enable the demonstration of practice capability.
  • Work openly and cooperatively with learners/orientees, their supervisors and managers, workplace colleagues, other professionals, and clients, in the planning of key activities at all stages of learning and assessment.
  • Seek and expect feedback from learners/orientees on their experience of being assessed, and the consequences of the assessment program for them.

Accountability

  • The Preceptor will work with the BCEHS Learning, Patient Care Delivery & partner learning organizations to support & be accountable to responsibilities such as: Critically reflect upon and evaluate their own professional development and apply learning to subsequent preceptor. experience using a range of methods.
  • Maintain a high personal standard of practice at their license level.
  • Maintaining strong clinical knowledge and proactively seeking out continuous medical educational opportunities.
  • Ensure consistency in delivering preceptor opportunities.
  • Engaging in documentation completion in various formats and submission within agreed time frames & to expected standard.
  • Development of student learning plans.
  • Understand the importance of developing a career management strategy which includes a professional development plan.
  • Communicate effectively with BCEHS Learning, Patient Care Delivery & Learning Organization.

 

Selection Criteria 

 

Essential Requirements:

  1. CUPE member.
  2. Must have 3 years plus a day of experience within BCEHS at the relevant Paramedic Level.
  3. A satisfactory work record must be maintained for the duration of this qualification.

In the event there are less than four applicants who meet the criteria in Article 13.03(a) then the Employer shall first consider all bargaining unit applicants on the posting.

 

Selection Process:

  1. Successful completion of the knowledge/skills assessment at a passing rate of 65% (Accounts for 45%)
  2. An interview (Accounts for 45%)
  3. Full-time Seniority (Accounts for maximum 10%)

 

Desirable Requirements:

  1. Teaching/Educational/Coaching Experience

 

  1. Knowledge/Skills Assessment (45% of total score)

Applicants will be required to successfully complete a knowledge/skills assessment. This assessment is online through the Learning Hub and must be completed from a location with reliable internet access.  Eligible applicants will be notified of the exam date via their BCEHS email address at least 7 days in advance. 

 

Online Exam Access:

Please be aware, applicants require access to a reliable internet connection via Google Chrome, and it is recommended to use a laptop or desktop computer. We discourage the use of mobile devices for these activities.

 

 

        2. Interview (45% of total score)

Applicants who successfully achieve a score of 65% or higher on the Knowledge/Skills Assessment will be scheduled to interview. Video interviewing will be used to allow applicants to answer the questions remotely using recorded video.  Eligible applicants will be notified of the interview date at least 7 days in advance. 

 

Should you be unsuccessful on the written exam, or pass the exam but not participate in the interview process, you will be counted as "unsuccessful” and a score of 0 will be applied as your interview score and you will not be eligible to compete on roles in the same classification for a period of 6 months.

        3. Full-Time Seniority (Up to 10%)

Up to 10% will be applied to all candidates who complete the interview to determine their final score.

 

The successful candidate(s) shall be the employee(s) with the highest total score and a satisfactory disciplinary record.
