Salary Range: $43,758-49,227/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

BC Cancer Victoria’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Centre is a world-class cancer research facility. We are seeking a detail-oriented Research Assistant 1 (RA 1) to support the research team of Dr. Maryam Soleimani and Dr. Nicolette Fonseca. The RA1 role is a one-year position with the possibility of extension based on grant funding and performance.
Duties/Accountabilities:
Under the supervision of the principal investigators, the successful applicant will play an essential role in research projects focused on immuno-genomic biomarker development in kidney cancer. The results of these studies will provide new understanding of how genetic alterations in tumours confer the ability to escape immune surveillance, and provide evidence for incorporating composite immune and genomic biomarkers in clinical trials. The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:
- Supporting day-to-day biobanking operations including specimen accessioning and inventory management including tracking locations, transfers and distributions to investigators.
- Maintaining database records: timely data entry, verification, discrepancy resolution and routine quality checks/audit to ensure traceable sample histories and downstream usability.
- Regularly coordinating and communicating with team members, clinical coordinators and physicians.
- Assisting in analysis of study data, revision of study protocols and contributing to biobanking related reports and presentations.
- Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying gaps, suggesting solutions and implementing refinements under guidance.
- Taking all necessary safety training and precautions when handling potentially hazardous materials.
Qualifications:
- Minimum BSc in a science/health-related discipline and one year of experience in biobanking, clinical research operations, specimen handling or laboratory workflows.
