Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Cancer Drug Manual Editor coordinates the maintenance of the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) Cancer Drug Manual, including the Chemotherapy Preparation and Stability Chart, Hazardous Drug List, and other Cancer Drug Manual appendices.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1.    Collaborates with members of the Provincial Tumour Groups, the Provincial Systemic Therapy Program, and other members of the health care team to coordinate the compilation, production and distribution of the Cancer Drug Manual
2.    Updates the Cancer Drug Manual and related documents to include new drug information, including:
•    Developing contents of Cancer Drug Manual related documents by methods such as reviewing literature, consultation with other health care professionals
•    Maintaining the bibliography for these documents using citation manager program (e.g., RefWorks)
•    Ensuring the contents of the Cancer Drug Manual are consistent with the BCCA Chemotherapy Protocols, Cancer Management Guidelines and other BCCA standards and policies
3.    Updates the Cancer Drug Manual and related documents to reflect changes in drug information, including:
•    Maintaining and updating contents of Cancer Drug Manual related documents by methods such as reviewing literature, consultation with other health care professionals
•    Maintaining the bibliography for these documents using citation manager program (e.g., RefWorks)
•    Ensuring the contents of the Cancer Drug Manual to be consistent with the BCCA Chemotherapy Protocols, Cancer Management Guidelines and other BCCA standards and policies

4.    Supervising the progress of and mentoring the Cancer Drug Manual writers throughout the duration of their secondment, including:
•    Coordinating the selection and orientation process of the Cancer Drug Manual writers seconded from the BCCA centres
•    Reviewing and editing submissions from Cancer Drug Manual writers
•    Evaluating the work of the writers including the assessment of the submitted drug monographs
•    Providing feedback to the writers
5.    Planning, preparing and chairing the Cancer Drug Manual Editorial Board meeting, including:
•    Recruiting Cancer Drug Manual Editorial Board members
•    Communicating with Cancer Drug Manual Editorial Board members as needed  
6.    Organizing and chairing Cancer Drug Manual writing team meetings, including planning and follow-up
7.    Preparing documents for posting to the Cancer Drug Manual website, including all final editing and announcements in the Systemic Therapy Update. Develops and maintains embargo deadlines related to the Cancer Drug Manual.
8.    Publishes articles in professional journals relating to oncology pharmacy practice
9.    Maintains statistics for workload
10.    Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience

• Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Licensed with College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
• Minimum three (3) years of recent related experience including experience in oncology and/or hematology or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Education, training and or experience in medical writing and manual production

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish priorities and be self-directed.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all members and levels of the Agency’s health care team, patients, family members and external health professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with others.
• Demonstrated ability to use computerized pharmacy systems and other software applications such as WORD and Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to teach staff and students, including clinical training and didactic teaching.
• Demonstrated ability to provide pharmaceutical care to patients.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research.
• Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated skills in CPR techniques.
