Job Summary

Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.      The Support Services Aide, NICU, provides cleaning, tidying, ordering, distributing and stocking functions as required in user areas according to established policies, standards and procedures.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1.    Maintains patient care areas and equipment by performing duties such as cleaning patient care equipment, reporting items in need of repair and delivering to service department; moving equipment from patient rooms and hallways such as parent and patient beds/cribs, IV pumps, commodes and wheelchairs to and from storage.

2.    Ensures patient care areas, procedure rooms, bedsides, unit rooms, hallways and other designated areas are clean and maintained by performing duties such as making all sleep surfaces and emptying garbage, sharps and linen containers.

3.    Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in nursing and patient care areas by drawing stock from department supply/utility rooms.

4.    Assists the nursing staff to meet patient needs by performing duties such as distributing and delivering specimens to the laboratory, picking up blood products from Transfusion Medicine and Pharmacy items for delivery to the patient care area.

5.    Ensures that extraneous equipment and supplies are removed from bedsides and stored appropriately (including returning items to designated owners).

6.    Orders and picks up supplies such as requisitions, mail, store items and unit specific laundry from various areas throughout the hospitals and ensures adequate amount of linen is on hand.



7.    Assists with moving equipment, supplies, etc., as needed.

8.    As required, strips and cleans all counter tops, shelves, drawers, etc., throughout the department.

9.    Returns items to designated locations in user areas.

10.    Rotates stock in user areas to ensure good dating.

11.    Cleans and inspects toys for broken or damaged pieces to ensure cleanliness and safety to patients.

12.    Dusts and damp mops floors and mops up spills as needed.

13.    Maintains general tidiness and cleanliness of department.

14.    Restocks clean room following patient discharge.

15.    Cleans and defrosts all fridges, freezers and other appliances by removing food and wiping shelves and surface areas.

16.    Verifies product and quantity received against requisition to ensure the right product in the right quantity is received.

17.    Checks completed requisition for accuracy.

18.    Collects food trays for return to kitchen.

19.    Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience

•    Grade 10 plus six months of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
