Job Summary

Salary Range: $145,739-$160,313/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.


Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioners Oncology Fellowship Program is a structured educational initiative designed to equip Nurse Practitioners (“NP”) with specialized oncology knowledge and clinical competencies. The program aims to bridge the gap between general NP training and the complex care needs of oncology patients.  During the thirteen (13) month intensive program, the NP Fellow will develop advanced clinical expertise in cancer care across the continuum – from diagnostics to active treatment and survivorship.  The NP Fellow will rotate through a variety of clinical oncology settings working with oncology experts to gain a well-rounded knowledge of specialty and sub-specialty care including intensive clinical exposure in a variety of tumor sites (e.g. lung, breast, GI, GU, head and neck, hematological malignancies, etc.). Rotations will occur at the NP’s primary worksite but may include opportunities at other BC Cancer Centres or Community of Oncology Networks (“CON”) sites, if applicable.


Program Highlights:

  • Intensive clinical training with protected weekly didactic seminars/educational time.
  • Program delivery:
    • Seminars primarily online, with two mandatory in-person sessions
    • Clinical 4 days per week
  • Exposure to diverse oncology subspecialties and patient populations.
  • Focused development of:
    • Critical thinking and decision-making skills.
    • Confidence in autonomous and collaborative practice.
    • Care and management of the oncology patient.
    • Evidence-based and population-based care approaches.
    • Exposure to clinical trials/research protocols.
  • Performing duties such as, but not limited to:
    • Perform comprehensive assessments, diagnostics, and prescribe treatment plans.
    • Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams and refer to specialists as appropriate.
    • Provide increasingly independent patient care.
    • Participate in clinical rounds, case discussions, and class seminars.
    • Complete a scholarly project.
    • Complete and pass the AOCNP certification exam at the end of the fellowship.
