What You’ll Do
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant with PHSA, you’ll be part of a team that supports vital diagnostic services across British Columbia. In this important role, you will:
- Provide a calm, compassionate presence while collecting blood and non-blood specimens from patients.
- Prepare and label specimens with accuracy, following safety and quality protocols to ensure reliable results.
- Package and transport specimens in accordance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and WHMIS guidelines.
- Forward specimens to referral labs or internal departments, supporting efficient and timely testing.
- Maintain smooth day-to-day lab operations and contribute to a safe, organized work environment.
- Register patients, generate blood collection lists, and manage data using the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related digital tools.
- Play a key role in delivering high-quality laboratory services that help patients receive the care they need—when they need it most.

- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) program is required.
- Proven venipuncture experience, ideally in a fast-paced health care setting is a bonus.
- Confidence working with digital lab systems and a typing speed of at least 25 words per minute.
- A collaborative spirit and a strong commitment to patient-centered care, even on your busiest days.
- A personal dedication to ongoing learning—including reconciliation, cultural safety, and anti-racism in health care.
- A readiness to grow your career while living and working in the vibrant communities of Chilliwack and Hope
