BC Cancer - Victoria’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Centre is a world-class cancer research facility specializing in cancer immunotherapy. We are seeking a Research Assistant I (RA1) to help develop novel therapies that promote anti-cancer immune responses by boosting B cell responses. The RA1 role is a two-year position with the possibility of extension based on grant funding and performance.

Under the supervision of the Project Lead, the successful applicant will play a critical role in supporting preclinical studies aimed at deciphering and harnessing the role of tumour-infiltrating B cells (TIL-Bs) and their antibodies in the anti-tumour immune response to ovarian cancer. The results will fill key knowledge gaps in the current understanding of TIL-Bs, including their largely unidentified target antigens, and may identify novel therapeutic targets. The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and performing experiments as needed using some, or all, of the following techniques: molecular cloning (including bacterial transformation and DNA isolation), mammalian cell culture, protein lysate preparation, protein gel electrophoresis, silver staining, western blotting, ELISAs, flow cytometry, and plate-based cell cytotoxicity assays. The RA1 will also be responsible for diligent data management, record keeping, general lab maintenance, and other duties as required. This opportunity will allow the candidate to develop a diverse skill set and expand upon existing competencies. The position may occasionally require the successful applicant to work outside regular hours, including weekends and evenings.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for B cell research as well as the following skills: self-motivation, resourcefulness, accountability, independence, teamwork, oral and written communication, and problem-solving. The candidate must have at least one year of relevant lab work experience and university coursework in a relevant program.
